When I attended the Long County Middle School band concert I was surprised at what I had heard. The instruments included the clarinet, trumpet, flute, Saxophone, and many more. The sounds were outstanding to me because I hadn’t been to a live band concert in years. The saxophone really shocked me because due to the children being so young I’d think that that would be hard to play for them.
The instruments altogether were so harmonic and soothing to hear.
The sound of the French horn really gave me the Christmas feel and the thought of the trumpets roaring when Jesus was born. The music at the concert was mainly Christmas songs that we know well. Tidings of Joy was one of the Christmas songs and that song alone I loved to hear the instruments come together and be very fluid with one another.
I was expecting to hear the band be not so well to be quite honest.
I thought that the music was going to be all over the place. My expectations weren’t so high because in usual cases the middle school still has a way to go versus the high school. My expectations going into this weren’t very high. Those children really blew me away because they played very well as the grades went higher. You could really tell the band worked extremely hard on this as well.
The band was together and in unison during every song. The whole purpose of this band concert was to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
The songs were to let the children and the parents know that Christmas is about unity and the love for family and friends. The song choices were also about Christmas unity and coming together as well. Performers included the sixth grade displaying that they can know what exactly the notes are within music.
The Seventh grade showed the audience that they can play more advanced Christmas tunes and carols. Eight grade performers showed the audience that they can play as a band together with more instruments and play those instruments in sync. Some of the titles included Tidings of Joy, African Bell Carol, Cartoon Christmas, and Ding Dong Merrily on High. I would say that the titles of these songs would belong to the classical period. Most of these songs have the trumpets and trombone and flutes in them as well. One composer from these songs is Michael Story. Michael story has been composed lots of music for concert bands.
As well Michael story has published lots of composition music as well. Altogether, the band concert was a good Christmas cheer!
