The Topic of the Movie Life of Pi

Life of pi is the story of a sixteen-year-old Indian boy who survives out in the sea for 227 days with a tiger, When he was fifteen he adopts for three religions and he consider himself to be devoted to all three. I am not a believer of god but I would like to discuss and make my own analysis of some unbelievable events on the movie. This movie is full of religion and symbolism, even though the spectator can interpreter as they wish, Pi represents the humanities and he adopts various religions trying to find the answer.

On the other side, there is his father who represents science and the reason of life vs. religionr Pi becomes a man of faith, God tells him that he will not find him on any temple or religion, but in life, I think god is testing Pi on his survival journey.

There is one scene where Pi asks the tiger what is he seeing, Pi also look at the reflection of himself on the water and I realized that the tiger represents the other side of Pi.

On the reconciliation scene when the tiger accept to be touched, is the acceptation of his dark side, is reconciliation with himself, self—acceptance of his crime and apology, However, when Pi arrived to Mexico he saw the tiger go. God was trying to tell him that he doesn’t need to keep that “dark” side of himself so he had to let go. I think that this connection with the tiger seems unbelievable.

Another element is the island, but I believe on the message that transmits.

On one of the scenes on the island we can appreciate the body of Vishnu an Hindu god I understood that the island is his salvation, it brings food and refuge but since Pi found the teeth, he knows that if he stays, he will get his sentence. When Pi is safe and he is talking with the Asian guys, he tells another story substituting the animals for his mother, the despicable cook and injured Japanese sailors. The story seems so much more believable because he doesn’t mention his adventures, including the carnivorous island. At the end Pi asks the man who he is telling the story, which story he believes and he believed on the fantasy one. This is telling us that we have and we will always have the right to believe whatever we want in my case, since I am not a believer, I would choose the second story.
