Little by little scientists are trying to create technology to help humans later in the future. Technology can help save lives and our environment so we can survive longer. It may not be big now but as we do more research, technology will be even more substantial. Scientists are creating nanotechnology that can save humans and our ecosystem. It can also bring a new change to the world. It can solve problematic situations that can put humans in danger. Nanotechnology can be of assistance for the environment to save and reuse water, generate a healthier atmosphere, help vulnerable countries and help save lives by creating more efficient and low cost medicine.
Scientists are finding new ways to save the Earth’s resources and they believe that nanotechnology can help save and reuse water to help the environment and humans.. In Karunaratne and Veranja’s article, “Nanotechnology Can Be Beneficial for the Environment” talks about how they believe that nanotechnology can help save the Earth’s resources.
For instance, “Some notable applications are magnetic nanoparticles and titania [titanium oxide] nanoparticles for removal of arsenic silver nanoparticles supported on alumina [aluminum oxide] for removal of pesticides and halogenated organics, hydrous polymer based iron oxide nanoparticles for removal of arsenic, chromium, vanadium, and uranium, and more recently the use of heavy metals for the removal of organic pollutants” (Karunaratne and Veranja). They assume that alumina nanoparticles can remove the pesticides and halogenated organics in water, allowing us to use the same water and not having to acquire more or run out of water.
The reason why we should save water with nanotechnology is because, “Of the remaining 2.5% of fresh water, only 1.3% is available as surface fresh water, the rest being hidden away in ground water, glaciers and ice caps. Of this meager amount of fresh water, nearly 74% is present as ice or snow. Thus, understanding how little is available for human consumption places pollution of water bodies in a catastrophic perspective” (Nanotechnology Can Be Beneficial To The Environment). With the amount of water we are accessible to is meager. Scientists don’t think we’ll have enough water supply to survive. Using nanotechnology to remove pesticides will let us use water without wasting any for an elongated time.
Air pollutants are causing global warming but scientists suppose that nanotechnology can eliminate air pollutants in the atmosphere. The amount of air pollutants in the world is a great deal and increases everyday. It might not be notable now but it can later impact our future. In this case, “The promise of nanotechnology in addressing environmental pollution related problems is predominantly in the area of nanosensors. A variety on nanomaterials such as gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, magnetic nanoparticles and quantum dots are increasingly [being] used as biosensors to detect pollutants because of the unique physical, chemical, mechanical, magnetic, and optical properties, which aid in the enhancement of selectivity and sensitivity of detection” (Nanotechnology Can Be Beneficial To The Environment). Using biosensors can detect harmful air pollutants and then we can eliminate the pollutants and climate change can stop and global warming can be prevented. Nanotechnology can assist in terminating bad air pollutants. In “Nanotechnology May Provide Innovative Solutions to Climate Change’’ the U.K government realizes the harmful effects and lowering the air pollutants can benefit the world or in other words, “A new report commissioned for the United Kingdom government recognizes nanotechnology has the potential to contribute to efforts to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions” (Nanotechnology May Provide Innovative Solutions to Climate Change). Now that a report recognizes the abilities of nanotechnology in the U.K, if they go through with the research and trying it out and if it works, it will spread all over the world and cause more countries to initiate a plan to use nanotechnology and prevent climate change and global warming.
The use of nanotechnology will help save vulnerable countries from attacks of other countries and improve the conditions as well. Nanotechnology can specifically help, Countries which are left behind are vulnerable to destabilizing economic pressures from more advanced nations, and may even be at greater risk of military invasions directed at their natural resources” (Nanotechnology Could Alleviate Many of the Problems of the Developing World). It can prevent attacks and possibly save lives. Helping these vulnerable countries, “Nanotechnology has been singled out for its unique potential to alleviate the suffering of the poor in the developed and developing worlds. In the long-run, productive nanosystems will likely enable cheaper and more efficient production processes which may lower the price of all goods” (Nanotechnology Could Alleviate Many of the Problems of the Developing World). Nanotechnology can help create resolve problems these countries might have. Since they don’t have the money to make safer and healthier productions, Nanotech can help with that as well. Nanotechnology can help vulnerable countries but, “Nanotech scientists also widely agree that nanotechnology could be used to increase agricultural productivity, enable better and cheaper water enhancement and purification technologies, and aid in disease diagnosis and screening” (Nanotechnology Could Alleviate Many of the Problems of the Developing World). It can provide more superior needs and products with nanotechnology to help poor countries.
Nanotechnology can help humans by creating low cost and more efficient medicine. The technology we have with medicine is great but something that can help us even greater is, “Theranostics, targeted drug delivery and regenerative medicine. Theranostics is a fusion of diagnosis and therapy, which leads to better treatment of disease” (Nanotechnology Can Be Beneficial To The Environment). Theranostics can help humans provide more accurate information and better care for humans. It can assist humans with their health with nanotechnology. Other ways to incorporate nanotech into medicine is, “Specific to the developing world, nanobiotechnology has the capability to address three of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals: reducing child mortality, improving mental health and combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases” (Nanotechnology Can Be Beneficial To The Environment). Child mortality, improving mental health, and combating HIV/AIDS, and other diseases can cause many deaths of humans. With nanotechnology, it can save so many more lives.
Nanotechnology will be able to help the environment to save and reuse water, create a healthier atmosphere, help impoverished countries and help save lives by establishing more valuable and low priced medicine. Nanotechnology will be able to salvage and reuse water. It can also be able to possibly stop global warming. Nanotech can construct low cost and efficient medicine. Nanotechnology will be able change the world in tremendous and beneficial ways.
