The following example essay on “The fault In Our Stars” is an analysis of a literary work by John Green. The essay reveals the plot of the novel and talks about the main characters of the story.
For this reading response, I read a novel called The fault In Our Stars which is written by John Green. John Greens writing I have always appreciated because he doesn’t write with cliche and gives us a taste of the real world. I also know this because John Green states in this book Fault In Our Stars the world is not a wish-granting factory (Pg 214).
John Greens does this in the novel Fault In Our Stars by using an active cancer patient, Hazel Grace, and a recovered cancer, patient August Waters and creates a cliche free story that shows us the thick and thin they go through together as emotions run high.
In this book, I enjoyed how the author John Green showed how August was able to reopen Hazels eyes to the world and give her a new outlook because there were a lot of things in the world left for her to explore and experience.
This was a huge difference in contrast to the beginning of the novel where Hazel viewed the world as being unfair or against her. Which is why she was always irritated at the beginning of the novel being annoyed at her mum for making her go to meetings and being sick of being sick in general
Another thing I appreciated about this novel Fault In Our Stars was the way he showed metaphors to his audience that was reading this book, with one of the most memorable because of its deep meaning being August and his cigarettes, Its a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you dont give it the power to do its killing.
(Pg 20).
For example, when he was on the plane and was nervous so he put a cigarette in his mother to calm himself and feel in control by giving himself something he can control which is the ability to light the cigarette and decide if he would give the cigarette the ability to kill him. so, in this example, August acts out this metaphor by caring around a pack of cigarets with himself where ever he goes because it gives himself the sense of being in control over the situations he faces and is in.
After reading this book written by John Green Which I personally believe is a good book and is a breath of fresh air and stood out from other books in the same genre as it because of the fact how he broke stereotypes and didn’t write a happily ever after story but one that showed us the ugly truth of the world we live in but also to make the most of it because there would always be someone worst off than you.
