During the American Revolution, Jefferson states in the Declaration of Independence that the American Colonies should abandon King George the Third because of the king’s tyranny towards the colonies right to self-rule and neglect of the colonies needs. He starts off by saying “a long train of abuses and usurpations”. In the beginning of this quotation, it shows that Jefferson is explaining that the colonists should not overthrow their government for any minor reason. Nonetheless, those people are victims of the abuse coming from the tyrannical government; however, it is the individual’s duty to overthrow those dictatorial acts.

King George does not want the Thirteen colonies to obtain any power at all due to the consequences he would have to face. He is responsible to make the legal process difficult so that nobody will interfere with him and stop him from his doings. The main reason why the colonists are rebelling against this king; they have a duty to abolish the current government and establish one of their own.

In addition, one of the first examples that show the dismemberment of their government is when the king “combined with others to subject us to jurisdiction foreign on our constitution and acknowledge by our laws” This quotation from the article reveals the Quebec Act (1774), the act that is from the Intolerable Acts done from England. This act allowed the people of Quebec to engage in public affairs of the Thirteen colonies. This was done in order to secure allegiance from the Quebec individuals, but it rendered the colonies unable to expand westward as the population increased.

Another one of the acts that was imposed in the American colonists was the Quartering Act (1765), this law allowed Parliament to pass the Quartering Act by outlining the locations and conditions in which British soldiers are to find room and board in the colonies. This required the colonies to house British in barracks provided by colonies. Even through those intolerable acts, the American colonists expected help from England to only find that British colonists “have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity”. Regardless the colonies being considered the daughter of Britain; the help they desperately need gets turned down. They tried to establish peace with Britain, but instead became separated and decided to start their own self-ruled government.

However, the United States has now declared their independence and can self-rule. They petition and requests only after abandoning their governing king. Every country should have the right to rule itself and if somehow that right is taken away, then they have the right to fight for it. In the article, Jefferson states that people “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Through this quotation, he confesses how Great Britain never gave the colonists the opportunity to experience those positive qualities. Eventually, Jefferson dubs King George III “A prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people”. The king’s perspective of this situation shows pure foolishness and ignorant qualities. The colonists only wanted to give a normal goodbye to Britain but, yet shout out their cries for help. Overall, the king is the reason the colonists caused rebellion.
