There comes a point in our lives when we question everything, For some people, this happens more often. We as people naturally question who we are and why we are here on the Earth, I come from a perspective where everything happens for a reason. I myself question why am I here? Why do I continue to live? As Sam from The Lord ofthe Rings puts it, “ there’s some good in this world,“ and it’s worth fighting for” (Jackson).
Life involves going through the bad to get to the good. During my life, I keep trudging on because I remember my family and what they have done Presently, an extremely audacious woman named Lidia Vieira—Gago lives on this Earth, She has endured more onerous task than I can even begin to comprehend. Lidia had seventeen children and she loves each and every one of them unconditionally. Her husband and her lived and impoverished life in Portugal.
They became chronically enervated as the years went on.
There was never enough to eat, but that did not deter them from their goali Unfortunately, their depriving life took the life of the set of twin girls from their family, These problems did not stop Lidiai and she was going to get to America with her family one way or another, there was nothing that was going to stop her. Being so indigent, the family could only go to America a few at a time. There went Lidia with three daughters on their way to America with practically nothing but their each other; they were leaving their family behind, only hoping to be reunited soon The family inevitably was reunited and all of the children were in “The Melting Pot.
” Years later, as I reflect on my history I truly see the amount of change that has occurred.
Her life is much more profitable, besides the death of her husband due to sudden illness. All of the children are well off with children of their own braving the world If Lidia had given up easily, the majority of the Portuguese population in New Jersey would be lacking, Now i may say that with a little sarcasm due to the immense size of my family – I truly am appreciative of the hard work though. Even with having to deal with the death of her two daughters and husband and the lacking life she had to live early on Lidia, my grandmother, kept going because she knew it would get better. Lidia passed on her work ethic to all of her children including my very own father Victor Vieira is truly the epitome of a foreigner accomplishing the “American Dream” and having a better-off lifet Victor has been working tirelessly ever since he was a young boy.
From working on the farm in Portugal to innumerable amount of other jobs in America. Not knowing an ounce of English, Victor not only had to help provide for his family; he also had to go to schools and tried to juggle playing soccer as well. My father grew tired of never having money for new clothes and the insufficient hand»me-d0wns were unusefult he wanted his own life and his own belongings. Thus, he worked and worked to be able to afford what he wished. My father said one things that struck me completely, “ You know Sam, me being so poor was the best thing that could have ever happened I was so poor that I could take risks because i had nothing to lose I could only move up, so I kept going.” My father is practically fearless and was willing to work as hard as he needed to have a better life.
Well, in short, he got there, The scrawny foreign farm child is now a middle class union worker with two children and a wife. His life was undoubtedly difficult growing up, but he made it He is surviving Reflecting on other people who have overcome vast obstacles, I immediately think of Steve Jobs. Jobs is unfortunately deceased – he had so much more to contribute to the world. Steve Jobs is the model of a person who went from nothing to a billion dollar creator of the Apple Company. While watching a film on Jobs, I could vividly see his life and all the hardships he faced. Steve Jobs wanted to create technology that was the utmost advanced and for the everyday person. He was set on creating products that were not exclusive or filled with an unnecessary advertisements, In old Apple commercials, Jobs simplifies the products and narrates the capabilities of a person. During the commercial “Here‘s to the Crazy Ones,” Jobs tells that Apple is for those who are not afraid to dream and work hard (“Apple Steve Jobs The Crazy Ones – NEVER BEFORE AIRED 1997 – (Original P050.” ).
Jobs always kept moving on in his life, Being kicked out of his own company and starting another company that failed miserably, Jobs in the end was reentered into Apple and the remainder of his life was most beneficial. In the Disney film Finding Nemo, the character Dori told the main character Marlin to “Just keep swimming,” This famous line has continued to inspire children and adults worldwide When [just feel like giving up, I remember my family, Steve Jobs, and Dori. Life is going to be hard, but that is no reason to give up The grass will really be greener on the other side I have been extremely lucky compared to many others in the world. I have not had to live my childhood on rock bottom like my fathert I have not had to suffer the death of children I have not had to been kicked out of my own company, These people of whom l speak did not give up, if people gave up where would the world be today? The Earth probably would be lifeless and barrent When life gets hard and you want to give upjust get tough and, “just keep swimming,” because after you hit rock bottom you can only go up (Unkrich).
