The Legend of the Candy Cane

Have you ever wondered how candy canes were made? This tasty treat was actually made accidentally! This legend is an interesting legend that takes place right here in Philadelphia. I like your hook A candy maker named Ginger, who was originally from Germany, was opening up a new candy shop on Candy Lane in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was December 3, 1847. He needed to make money and in doing that he knew he needed to make his candy shop unique. Ginger decided to try to make new candies.

In the process, he accidentally mixed a sugary red substance with a white minty substance into a J striped silicone mold. He told himself that the candy looked different then normal. It looked interesting. He decided to let it sit and cool. When it was done cooling he tasted it. It was the best thing he’s ever tasted. That’s it! That would be his new candy! But what would he name it? Ginger wanted to name it after something involving Candy Lane.

The candy looked like a cane. He said to himself “candy cane!” The candy maker put his new candy up for sale the opening day and everybody loved them! So, he made dozens more, creating the treat we all love, the candy cane.
