The Courage and Responsibility of My Role Model, My Mother Elizabeth

A role model is defined as “a person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral social role for another person to emulate”. In a more simplistic way, a role model is someone who one can look up to and hope to one day become similar to that role model, Many people consider different Hollywood stars, actors or musicians their role model. I am fortunately to say that my role model is much more accessible and real than other people’s.

My mother is my role model and I am truly blessed to be able to have and to learn so much from someone who, I am sure, loves me unconditionally Her name is Elizabeth and she is now 60 years old. Among several important principles that I have learned from mom, some values such as courage and responsibility stand out in her personal These values without a doubt offer me guidance as I learn to have my own set of values in life and they also incentivize me to become a better person, Courage is the overcoming your fears and replacement of them with right attitude to overcome the challenging situations in life.

Throughout life, mom has showed me how one needs to be courageous and that giving up and surrendering to difficulties is never an option I can clearly recall when after my parents divorced and my mother’s clothing factory went bankrupt, she decided to move to the Unites States. It was in January of 2001 when she left her three daughters in a small, 1-bedroom rented apartment in a warm Brazil to start a new beginning in a cold, full of promises, the United States.

She came to this country without knowledge of the language and the culture, without friends and with only $1000 in her pocket. I am certain that she felt alone and afraid but she was courageous enough to hold on to her decision and give her life (and ours) a turn around She called every day and cried every day for a year and as promised she brought us to this country a year later. Responsibility is accepting accountability for ones self and the well being of others My mother’s sense of responsibility for us made her come out of her comfort zone and start from the beginning all over again.

When I reflect about this, I still can’t quite figure out how she was able to pay for our expenses all by herselfi She did work two jobs and was always on the go but still, raising three kids and paying for food, clothing and rent must not have been easy I can happily say that she was always present and interested in our activities, pushing us to so well at school and to play sports, she got us involved at church and at different school clubs in an attempt to raise “decent daughters”, and yet, we would learn mostly from her and from her actions day after day in your own home Courage and responsibility are fundamental values that can help guide one in towards doing the right things life. My mother is a concrete example of a woman with such values. Her courage in raising three teenagers alone in totally new culture makes her as courageous and brave of a mom as it can be. Her sense of responsibility in providing food and shelter for her family was paid with sacrifices and a lot of hard work Ultimately, my mother’s values show the strong, perseverant, hardworking woman and these values make me a proud, appreciate daughter,
