To be successful in the changing workplace, education system, and race/ethnic status, there are three main factors. Willing to learn new things, having a student understand a concept in their language, and be treated equally among all members of society.

To be successful in the workplace, an individual must be willing to learn new things for a job. Learning new things helps keep an open mind and sparks creativity. It also helps the individual climb up the pay raise or corporate ladder by knowing several different job tasks or job areas that are useful to the workplace.

Many employers love employees who know how to multitask. If the employee keeps climbing the corporate ladder, they can also earn promotions for their hard work. In life, no one knows everything. It is essential to learn new things at any given job and implement the new knowledge to the job and show the employer that this person may execute their knowledge well.

Back in the 1900s, change in the workplace was inevitable. Workers went from farming, service work, and industrial work, and then new technology came. New technology comes out every year and white-collar jobs now are related to technology issues. The change in jobs required workers to learn something new. According to Serraview, “Implementing change in your organization must be slow, incremental steps help people adjust and become comfortable in the new flexible environment a little at a time”. This quote explains how an employer should implement change to the work environment slowly so those who are not too keen on change, may adapt gradually rather than quickly.

In a constantly changing education system, teaching what is relevant to children in life and having them understand is a success. If a child is struggling with a concept in math and they finally get a math problem correct, that could be a breakthrough for them! Once the child grasps that concept, they may continue to the next level. If a child is new to the United States and does not know English, having that child learn and understand words and form a sentence will also be a successful breakthrough. Also having children master a concept when the teacher thought it would be hard, makes the education system and the teacher feel successful. This goes for any aged kids from five to eighteen. The Zebra states, “—it must be considered that there are a lot of factors which have an impact on the education process. Here are some unique keys which can make an education system successful: School as a friendly environment for everyone, New technologies in the learning process, Less homework is not a joke, Professional teachers as key to success, and Equality as a factor of psychological comfort”. This article states that these five keys are key points to making an education system successful.

School should be a friendly and safe environment so kids can enjoy their time there instead of feeling imprisoned. Using new technology, especially one the students are accustomed to, will help them learn and retain material better. Giving out less homework so the students feel overworked helps keep the brain active. Teachers being professional, but also fun and providing comfort create a safe space for students while also creating a relationship. My mother is a second-grade teacher in Des Moines and two years ago, they changed the common core curriculum. It was a big adjustment to the education system and the teachers. Instead of reaching certain goal points with students by the end of each section of material learned, the students must achieve a goal every day with every new material learned. Especially with reading and math.

Success within race/ethnic status is to be treated equally. It has taken centuries for people of color other than white to be treated fairly. People of different race/ethnic backgrounds have gone through many hardships including slavery, gaining citizenship, Jim Crow laws, public discrimination, school segregation, and gaining the right to vote. People of color also had specific jobs only they could do like picking cotton. They also could not compete in the job market as they can now. To give sight on the unsuccessful side, there is still discrimination out there, and not just with race/ethnicity, it is also there between men and women as well. The race has been doing better than gender or homosexuality as we have elected a president for two terms for the United States, but no women or gay/lesbian presidents. As read by Research and Insight, “—four in ten adults ages 25 and older attained a high school or higher education degree between all racial and ethnic groups”. By reading this and looking at the graph, it does not matter what your race or ethnicity is, anyone can be successful!

Sociological imagination refers to the awareness of your relationship and the wider society. The sociological perspective lets one view humanity as a society. Sociological theories are facts of the social world that are/can be related. The social policy consists of guidelines by the government that are concerned with human welfare. If we coin all of these definitions together with how to be successful, one may realize there are key issues with every point. In the workplace, not everyone may like change; in education, there may be students who continue to struggle; in race/ethnic groups there continues to be discrimination. How do we, the population, fix these problems? Conservatives on the workplace, education, and race/ethnicity: free-market economics, Minimum government regulation, the greatest good for the number of people, people will be allocated where the jobs are, individuals should take responsibility for their well-being; charter and magnet schools, support for private companies support schooling for profit, school vouchers, support policies to show greater accountability for how well or poor the students perform; people are responsible for their social standing, cultural differences set apart from others, affirmative action on “reverse discrimination”.

Liberals on work, education, and race status: a free market with government regulation to ensure all interests are taken care of, progressive taxation, higher minimum wage, government aid for education, job training, and health benefits; support for public education, some free choice in schooling, equalize school funding, bilingual education, invest in out-of-class activities, expand investment in education; societal factors are the main reason for inequality, government action is favored solution, affirmative action that has worked increased the hiring of women and minorities. Radicals on the workplace, schooling, and ethnic status: the free market is the source of economic and work-related problems, replace the capitalist economic system with a better one, and makes the people the highest priority; academic shortcomings are a function of structured inequality in society, eliminate inequality in society; attack the source of inequality which is capitalism, eliminate the ideological basis of the race which is what divides people.

In conclusion, in a changing workplace, education system, and race/ethnic status, one must be willing to learn new things; understand a hard concept, and be treated fairly by everyone in society.
