This comedy is packed with a cast of natural comedians, starring such comedians such as Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Kevin James. These actors are known as interpreters or commentator actors. Interpreter and commentators play characters closely resembling themselves in personality and physical appearance, and they interpret these parts dramatically without wholly losing their own identity (Boggs & Petrie, 2008, pg.

32). This movie is funny, hilarious, and enjoyable to watch. Like most movies, this one also has a life lesson included with laughs and giggles. Grown Ups is about five high school friends who reunited after their high school basketball coach passes away. Their basketball coach was a great mentor to them and encouraged them to live their lives in a similar way to how they played the basketball. Lenny Feder (Adam Sandler) is a high-powered Hollywood talent agent who is married to Roxanne (Salma Hayek), a fashion designer.

They have two sons, Greg and Keith, and one daughter Becky, all of whom have become spoiled.

Eric Lamonsoff (Kevin James) tells his friends that he is a co-owner of a lawn furniture company who is married to Sally (Maria Bello). They have one daughter, Donna and one son Bean, who at the age of four still breast-feeds. Kurt McKenzie (Chris Rock) is a stay at home father who is married to Deanne (Maya Rudolph), the working force of the family.

They have a son, Andre, and a daughter, Charlotte. Deanne is pregnant with a third child, and her mother, Ronzoni, lives with them. Rob Hilliard (Rob Schneider) is a thrice-divorced pacifist vegan married to Gloria (Joyce Van Patten), who is 30 years older than he is.

He has three daughters that he has not seen in while. Marcus Higgins (David Spade) is living the single life. They all reunite with their families at a lake house in New England for the Forth of July rented by Lenny. They all reminisce on their high school days and realize how much has changed since then. The movie is really about the reuniting of friends for a special occasion, the remembrance of their high school basketball coach. During their reunion, they discover each other’s struggles involving life, work, and family issues.

They forget about their problems and getaway from it all by having fun with their families in the great outdoors. During their getaway, they all become closer to their family and are better suitable to deal with life’s everyday changing saga. The characters in this movie are known as developing characters, in that they undergo important changes throughout the movie. Developing characters are deeply affected by the action of the plot (internal, external, or both) and undergo some important change in personality, attitude, or outlook on life as a result of the action of the story ((Boggs & Petrie, 2008, pg. 8).

The moral of the story is that family is everything. I guess the point of it all is to live life to the fullest with family, love ones, and appreciate the hand that life has dealt you. You don’t have to pretend to be someone or something you are not. By being yourself, you will gain the respect and dignity you deserve from your family and friends. It is easy to be caught up with the things of the world and quickly forget about the people you deeply care for and mean so much to you. Sometimes you just have to kick back for a while a let your mind take a break.

I did find this movie meaningful to me. Not only did it make me laugh but it also taught me a life lesson within it. It taught me to enjoy life and don’t get wrapped around the world and forget about the ones that mean so much to you at heart. How you live your life is the reflection you have on your children’s life. In this case, Lenny’s (Adam Sandler) children was spoiled because of they let them do what ever they wanted to do. After being with the other kids during this getaway, they learned a lot about themselves and how fun it is without the electronics.

They learned how to fun in the great outdoors and with other children from different backgrounds. There are other points of the movie but this was one point of the story that stuck out to me the most. Sometimes you benefit more from life just by putting others first before yourself. Overall, this movie was very hilarious and had a valuable lesson that I learned from in the conclusion; family is everything.
