In the southeast part of Rajasthan, Kota city is built on the banks of the Chambal River. Its glorious history, rich heritage, and diverse culture welcome tourists from all over the world. 3. Kota Stone

Kota is famous for 3 k’s out of which one is the Kota stone. It is a natural limestone used for exterior and interior home decoration and gives it an opulent look. 7. Kota Doria

Kota Doria is mainly made in Kota from the mid 17th and 18th centuries it first originated in Mysore and is a unique blend of cotton and silk. Kota Doria is a fine weave and has very less weight. These have a square check pattern on the fabric known as Khats. Kota Doria sarees or suits are available in 3 different styles – basic, printed, and zari and in a variety of colors. They can be worn for casual as well as dressy occasions.

8. Dusshera Fair

Kota celebrates several festivals but the Dusshera Mela of Kota is quite popular for its uniqueness all over the country. Prominent artists from different cities come to make three tall effigies of demons Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhkarna which are burnt on the Viajyadashmi to celebrate the victory of good over evil. Firecrackers are placed inside the effigies. A child well dressed as Lord Rama shoots the arrow of fire over Demon Ravana and burns it. People come here to enjoy the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana.

The Dussehra fair is organized with lots of cultural programs, competitions, a shopping arena, a flood zone, fun rides, and many more. This fair starts from the day of Viajyadashmi to the Dhanteras. More than 1 lac people from Kota and outside cities/villages come to witness the event.

9. City Palace

Kota’s City Palace, also known as Garh Palace is located in the Tipton area and is one of the treasures of the city which showcase the Rajput Heritage along with the Mughal Art.

It is said that Prince Jait Singh of Bundi found this city palace, Kota’s Garh in 1964 on the spot where he defeated and killed the previous ruler Bhil Chieftain Koteya. To commemorate the human sacrifice of the ruler, Koteya, this city is named Kotah. Different rulers at different periods made a large number of apartments and monuments inside it. The Palace is entirely built on Marble and its interiors have eye-catching wall paintings, mirror walls, and mirror ceilings. This complex also has a grand museum showing the royal culture of Kings and Queens. Their costumes, apparel, artifacts, handicrafts, etc. reflect their heritage. There is also a beautiful backyard around the palace which makes it more wonderful.

10. Kota Barrage

Kota Barrage or Kota Dam in Rajasthan’s important reservoir built over the Chambal River. This place is a favorite hangout for locals and tourists mainly during the rainy season. The breathtaking view of water flowing through its gates is worth watching. There is a temple of Lord Shiva, Kansua nearby it which is very famous for the four-faced Shiva lingam.

11. Temples

Kota is one of the famous holy centers for having many temples. Shivpuri Dham is the place having 525 shillings and it is said that one of the shivling is as high as 15 feet and is constructed from a single piece of black stone. Jag Mandir lies in the middle of Kishor Sagar lake and is built of red sandstones by one of the queens of Kota. Radha Krishna Mandir at Talwandi has a splendid Radha and Krishna and their mystical love story. Godavari Dham is situated in Dadabari near Chambal Garden and is a white marble Hanuman temple. A huge marble swan welcomes from the top of the entrance gate. Khade Ganesh Ji mandir has a standing idol of Lord Ganesha and is found to be a very old temple.

Kota also has Garadiya Mahadev Temple, Daad Devi, gapernath Temple, Karneshwar Temple, Kansua Temple, and so on.

12. Entertainment

Kota also takes care of its locals and tourists in the field of entertainment.
