American History: Resolving Problems Between Citizens

Topics: World War 1

America History from my understanding can be understood as a summary of all the events that happened and contributed in the past to make a better tomorrow for our continent, country or society. One of the memorable moments in U.S history from my perspective is the declaration of independence, which is one of the most important documents in the history of the U.S declaring independence from Great Britain. Another event is the Zimmerman telegram which was the main cause why the U.

S got involved in WWI.

When I first look at a class online, it was something new to me because I realized that I had a choice to take my lessons when and how. Some on the thing the teacher provides us was the textbook, and some PowerPoints that basically reviewed the important points of each of the perspective units from that she or he tested us based on what we learned for each module for the topic.

During the Reconstruction, the South encountered some impacts such as a loss of capital. After the war, citizens were left with nothing, soldiers wanted to start a new life, and black people were still receiving the same treatments. Even though the 13th amendment abolished slavery, blacks were still segregated and forced into working in cultivation for an exchange of land. Not only were they working to protect their families and gain some privileges, but also because black people were prohibited to stay unemployed. However, some states passed the black codes which prohibited ex-slaves from owning guns or knives and giving testimony against whites.

In 1868, the 14th amendment was ratified, which stated that all persons born or naturalized in the U.S are citizens and no state should deny it. After that, the 15th amendment was passed, and it gives people the right to vote. The reconstruction did work because thanks to that, people received certain rights.

The American West policy made some changes because the government gave lands to private developers and railroad executions, encouraging most of the excessive population movement. To build railroads the government, aid Americans to settle by building towns since these communities needed business and consumers; for example, small farmers immigrants from China and Europe freed slaves from the south and Hispanics from Mexico. As a result, the population of Kansas increased more than five times in less than twenty years.

The gilded ages brought development to the west where this transformed agriculture into industrialization, bringing the biggest business in America which was the Rail Road. IT transported raw materials and other businesses was Cornelius Vanderbilt, who built a fleet of steamships to transport goods based on his status and hard work, at that time he went from a simple businessman to be the wealthiest man in America. Also, John D. Rockefeller who was the leading producer of the infrastructure for an industrial society of refined petroleum.

According to Pamela Laird, one of the advantages that Rockefeller brought to the oil market was order, structure, pricing, efficiencies and so on.

As the beginning of WWI, the U.S was declared an isolated and neutral country which means that they wont participate in the war. However, they discover a way to take that profit at war, which was to sell guns and other goods to France and Britain who were allies and participants of WWI. As a result, a German submarine sank the Lusitania where many Americans lost their lives. The U.S started to doubt about their isolation in war and since the president did not want to be part of the war. But his thoughts changed when Germany sent the Zimmerman telegram to Mexico proposing an alliance against the U.S President Wilson asked Congress to declare war.

Great Britain was allied with France, as well as Russia and Italy. Since Britain spent most of their money buying guns from the U.S and other goods, by the end of the war their economy was affected a not stable because they did not have that much of capital. While on the other side, the U.S economy was stable because they did not have so much loss. Continuously, the U.S to stay in touch with their economy, they took care of their industry, labor, and agriculture. President Wilson believed that the league of nations and the treaty of Versailles will provide peace even though not everyone had the same thoughts as him.

President Wilsons, fourteen points was his plan for peace without giving a moral idealistic outlook on the war which based in three categories.

The first one deals with diplomatic issues like freedom of the seas, the second one is changing various boundaries in Europe to help ensure a lasting peace and the League of Nations which was an organization created to promote peace and security. Adding that, while the Treaty of Versailles was a Paris peace conference convened in order to create a peace treaty. I believe that these resolved some issues between the nationals and since WWI brought so many losses, they wanted to create some rules to prevent that from happening again.
