The following sample essay on “My observations and experiences ” . In this paper, I will explain my observations and experiences. I will refer one theory about a situation, and I will discuss my strengths and weaknesses.
Last week a parent of a 1st grade student’s parent called my mentor. In their class, boy students hit girl students. The parent asked, could you talk to the boy students. Then my mentor first started with the girl students and call the students in that class to her room.
My mentor spoke with the girl student who her parent was on the phone, the student could not give clear information. She didn’t tell someone hit her. She told, she was fighting with her friend. My mentor clarified the issue of collision. ‘The collision is something that is in error. Let’s say I collided with you, who is guilty? ‘ said. The student stopped. Then, she said no one. She understood the difference. I found the attitude my mentor was holding right here.
I think she explained it in a right and clear language. When she talked to the other girls, nobody mentioned the boys hitting girls. They said boys used bad words. My mentor said, what do you mean by the bad word, if could you give an example, the girls said that they called ‘Oha’. Some of them, said that they were swearing for the word ‘oha’. My mentor also clarified this issue. She tried to explain that the word ‘oha’ was not a swearing, it was a slang word.
Some people may say ‘oha’ when they are surprised. But polite and kind people don`t use this word she said. I found it very accurate to speak in a language they can understand. I have come to realize that if I encounter such a problem in the future, I should use such explanatory and explicit language.
With the same class, we continued the meeting. While talking to boy students, some said, ‘I don’t hit girls.’ They know it’s wrong to hit girls. In fact, they know it’s not right to hit anyone, but I find it strange that their answers I don’t hit girls. It did seem strange to mention specifically. According to gender schema view, believe that environment affects the childs understanding of gender indirectly, through schema, or cognitive structure. This schema guides the way the child selects and remembers information from the environment and leads the child to act in ways that are considered gender-appropriate in the childs culture (Lightfoot, Cole & Cole, 2013, p.311). In other words, the student tried to keep his behavior in that direction with the gender-appropriate information he got from the environment. He heard the sentences from his environment and said in the meeting, ‘doesn’t hit girls’. He’s adopted this attitude. A gender schema has occurred for the boy.
Last week I applied a short questionnaire called I am Pencerem organized by the MEB to 3rd and 4th grades. I didn’t have much difficulty applying this survey in the 4th grade. But I’ve found it difficult to explain some sentences. I also find it difficult to provide classroom management. I don’t know how to improve this. In the 3rd grade, I felt a little hard to encourage them to do when a few of the students didn’t want to do it. I saw myself weak on these issues. I was learning how to communicate properly with students through such studies. That made me feel strong.
