A World I Don't Want to Live In

There are many issues in the world that humanity is too blinded by their self-absorbed selves to fix, including world violence, global warming, gender equality, bullying, etc. When growing up, we are told many lies about our ‘perfect world,’ which makes us question reality. A famous poet, painter, and printmaker named William Blake once said this, “A truth that’s told with bad intent, beat all the lies you can invent.” Even though the world has shown major improvement in things, like technology, the world still fails to succeed socially and economically.

All of this dates back to July 4, 1776. It was an oppressing day when Benjamin Franklin signed the Declaration of Independence to remove America from the hands of Britain. This day is now called ‘The Fourth of July.’ We’ve seen many improvements in America, technology-wise, and academic-wise. People went as far as saying America is the greatest country, but America is not the greatest country. ‘Well, America gives us the freedom to do what we want,’ you may say to yourself.

Many countries give people the freedom to do what we please, including Chile, Australia, Canada, Japan, etc. Another problem that, in my opinion, America faces, is their schooling system.

Students are obligated to learn facts, take tests, and do projects, but I don’t think that the way to proceed with it. These days students will not find transcendent jobs for their knowledge, students will find jobs for what they can do with their knowledge. A famous YouTuber and motivational speaker said, ‘School is based on regurgitating information and test-taking, but in today’s world, creativity is the most important leadership skill.

Another problem is, we humans struggle with our ability to care for others. There are many ignorant people in this world. As I said in the beginning, humans are too self-absorbed to focus on things other than themselves, for example, homeless people. Homeless people are humans that are less fortunate than us. Based on national reports, there are 1.5 billion homeless people in the world and 7.7 billion people in total in the world. Does this mean anything to you? Think about it, are you able to sleep knowing this? When Benjamin Franklin signed the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin knew that there would be challenges making America its own country. Benjamin Franklin knew America would make enemies, but I don’t think Franklin knew America would become what it is today. We all have an opportunity to change the world, take it! We all have advanced technology, use it for meaningful use. We can make vigorous changes if we start now.
