This research paper explains the background of Josef Mengele and analyzes the actions of Mengele demonstrating genocide by his involvement of selections and doing many horrible experiments on Jewish twins. In my opinion, genocide means killing large amounts of innocent people. Dr. Josef Mengele demonstrated genocidal actions during the Holocaust by doing horrible experiments on Jewish twins and separating men and women to prevent births.
Josef Mengele was born March 16, 1911, in Gunzburg Germany. Josef Mengele’s parents were Karl and Walburga Mengele.
He was the oldest of 3 boys. His brothers were Karl Jr. and Aloris Mengele. Josef finished high school in April 1930 and then went to Geothe University in Frankfurt to study medicine. He also studied philosophy and earned a Ph.D. in Physical Anthropology. He got married in 1939 then separated in 1954. He then remarried in 1958. His child was Rolf Mengele.
Josef Mengele joined the Nazis party in 1937. In 1938 he got his medical degree and joined the S.S the same year.
He was drafted into the army in 1940, and he also volunteered to join a medical service. He was wounded in a battle so he returned to Germany. Then in April 1943 he was promoted to the rank of S.S Captain. He was then transferred to Auschwitz under an S.S Captain Physician, Dr.Wirths. After a few weeks in Auschwitz, he was appointed as the Chief Camp Physician of Birkenau. He got the free license to perform any experiment on Jewish and Gypsy twins. He was mainly responsible for picking out who should be exterminated.
Mengele was not the head physician but did genetic experiments and selections.
One experiment Josef Mengele did was injecting diseases to one twin, and not the other. Then, when one died he would often kill the other toe compare the effects of the disease. Some diseases he would inject would be typus, tuberculosis, Noma, and many other diseases. These actions were considered genocide because he killed thousands of Jewish children. Mengele was not brought to justice. According to his journal, he made it from the U.S occupied Germany, to Austria, then to Genoa, Italy. In 1949 he boarded a ship for a safe haven in South America. In 1979 he died from drowning while swimming.
I can suggest Josef Mengele demonstrated genocide by torturing and killing thousands of Jews. My evidence states “ He was the most prominent of a group of Nazis doctors who conducted experiments that often caused great harm or death to the prisoners.” This means that Josef Mengele’s experiments killed many jews. This is important because you should not kill people. Furthermore, I can suggest Josef Mengele demonstrated genocide by preventing births. My evidence states” A Nazis, Josef Mengele came toward us wielding a club, he commanded: Men to the left! Women to the right!”. This means that they prevented births by separating genders. This is important because if you separate the genders you can not have any births.
Finally, I can suggest Josef Mengele demonstrated genocide by killing members of a group. My evidence states” Out of the 1500 twins experimented on by Mengele, only around 200 survived the horror.” This means 1300 people died out of 1500 twins he experimented on, This is important because only 200 twins survived the experiments. In conclusion, Josef Mengele was part of the selection and did many experiments on twins. I learned that all of these bad things happened and yet people still demonstrate genocidal actions around the world today.
