We finally meet Niklaus Mikaelson, the hybrid who is trying to reawaken his werewolf side and create more of his kind. He’s been talked to be the antagonist for a long time and he is finally about to show himself and the plan he has for the Salvatore’s brothers and his plan to create new super creatures. In episode “Klaus,” We get flashbacks, and we see when Katherine first met Elijah and Klaus for the very first time. They reveal that Elijah and Klaus were brothers, however, their mother had an affair, so Klaus is their half-brother. His father was a werewolf, making him a hybrid. It is also revealed the sun and moon curse is false, the actual curse is only on Klaus. Witches had suppressed the werewolf part of him, making him only a vampire. He wants to break it, so he can change into a werewolf at will. When we see Klaus, we perceive him as Cohen Theory a Monster.

In Cohen’s first theory the monster’s body is a cultural body and Niklaus falls under that theory. Klaus incorporates fear, desire, anxiety and fantasy to all the people who knew him. He compels people into the fantasy he gives them and is feared among the other vampires and humans because he is the cruelest Original vampire. He once stated that, “People quake with fear because I have the power to make them afraid.” He’s a monster that signifies something other than himself; he is always a displacement, always inhabits the gap between the time of upheaval that created him and the moment into which he is received, to be born again. He always rises from the dissection table as his secrets are about to be revealed and vanishes into the night.

We can also relate to him to Cohen’s Second Thesis, “The Monster Always Escapes,” because Klaus always get away with things he does because his one of the very first vampires to ever exist which makes him very powerful and cannot be killed because an “Original” can only be killed by a wood from the ancient White Oak Tree, which their family burned when they became vampires. He uses this to always tell any vampire that dares to challenge him. He also uses compulsion to get away with the stuff he commits. Only an Original can compel both humans and non-original vampires, so whenever he does something bad, he compels them to forget it or gives a different story of what happened. Whenever is he threatened by a powerful witch or by his step father he always turns to ran away. Klaus step father is the only one who can actually challenge him and when he heard his father was alive, he ran away to New Orleans. He also falls under Cohen’s third theory the monster is the harbinger of category crisis. The monster always escapes because it refuses easy categorization.

This refusal to participate in the classificatory order of things is true of monsters generally: they are disturbing hybrids whose externally incoherent bodies resists attempts to include them in any systematic structuration. Klaus categorizes as a hybrid which makes him escape because it makes him hard to categorize. He is dangerous and forms a suspended between forms that threatens to smash distinctions. Niklaus notoriously appears at time of crisis as a kind of third term that problematizes the clash of extremes. He lastly falls under Cohen’s sixth Theory, “Fear of the Monster is Really a Kind of Desire.” Cohen’s sixth theory states that, “The monster is continually linked to forbidden practices, in order to normalize and to enforce. The monster also attracts even though they terrify, and interdict can evoke potent escapist fantasies; the linking of monstrosity with the forbidden makes the monster all the more appealing as a temporary egress from constraint.” Klaus is forbidden by the witches of some certain practices in order to normalize and to enforce in the community. Klaus attracts Caroline even though he terrifies her which goes with what Cohen stated.

We first perceive Klaus as a cold-blooded murder when we first see him. They say the first appearance matters the most and tells us about a person and since we saw him as a cruel and evil person. His best hobbies are killing and torturing without sparing their lives or filling any kind of guilt or mercy He will do anything to a person who tries to stop or come in his way if he is trying to do something. He will not stop at nothing until he gets what he wants and has no regard for human life. He was even willing to allow his unborn child and the Hayley to be killed because he hates ultimatum. Even though he’s known to keep memoranda of all his kills, he eventually starts to show care in some of the humans he loved and care about. Like Caroline and Camille, he falls in love with them and starts to treat them really nice and even act humane with them. He is the second strongest of the Original vampire because his step father is stronger than him. We learned why Klaus was so cruel, it was due to his step father harsh treatment towards him.
