Jackie Robinson's Baseball Career

Jackie Robinson was born as Jack Roosevelt Robinson in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919. Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play professional baseball. Robinson broke the baseball color line when the Brooklyn Dodgers started him at first base on April 15, 1947. The Dodgers, by playing Robinson, shown the end of racial segregation that had reduced black players to the Negro leagues since the 18805. Robinson held his own during his 10 seasons with not only the Brooklyn Dodgers but his career with the MLB. Robinson is 6-time All-Star from 1949 to 1954. Robinson also won his only World Series in 1955 playing the New York Yankees while having his best day at the plate, hitting two homeruns and two doubles with 7 steals that game, He became the National League MVP in 1949 but also was Rookie of the Year in 1947.
