Sevens Sisters Road

The state of Nebraska is known for having one of the top farming areas in the world. The farmlands are well known to have history, going back many years. The urban legend of the Seven Sisters Road took place in the early 1900s, an hour south of Omaha in Nebraska City. On a map, the road is called “L Street.” The small town has a population of about 7,000 people. Being so small, the people of Nebraska City carry horrifying stories about the Seven Sisters Road.

The road is known to be older than the town itself and is one of the most avoided roads. It used to be a dirt path with tall trees, and seven hills around. Seven sisters were hung on each of the seven hills by their angry brother. It is said to have been one of the most gruesome deaths in Nebraska City. For that reason, many people who drive on the road on which it happened, continue to experience paranormal activity beyond any normal experience.

As stated in urban legend beliefs, when a person dies violently with the feeling of fear and unexpectedly, the person’s spirit wonders unpeacefully until they move on beyond this realm. The story of the Seven Sisters Road shows that spirits will continue to haunt a place until peace is found.

It all started a hundred years ago, in an isolated home in the hills of Nebraska City. It was a two story, brown brick-built home with long glass windows on each side.

The home stood at the end of a long dirt path in an open field with tall trees and seven hills surrounding it. A young man lived in the home with both of his parents and all seven sisters. The young man was tall and had short cut brown hair that was always parted to the side. He had small blue eyes defined by his thin eyebrows and had a sharp jawline that brought out his facial structure. Legend says, the young man looked more like his father than his mother. The only differences were, that his father was a bit fuller in size, had a thick mustache and fuller eyebrows. On the other hand, the seven sisters were all similar in appearance like their mother.

They were known for having long brown hair and beautiful facial features. They were all two years apart in age from each other. The story varies on the age of the young boy. Some say he was the middle child and others say he was the youngest. The young man was always mad about something. He had a short temper when it came to his family. They were known to be a big religious family. The young man was different in terms of beliefs, which was the cause of all the arguments he would have with his parents. On days where the young man was mad, his sisters would always side with their parents. During the 1900s, being obedient and respectful to those above you was important. Parents were to be right most of the time, because they were more experienced.

One day, it was windy outside, and it started to rain. The trees outside were swishing back and forth while the leaves were slowly falling off onto the grass. The grass was starting to get wet enough that it became muddy outside. The young man’s parents were always making sure the field and trees were in good shape, because their home was far away from the other ones. That day, his family stayed in due to the gloomy weather. The young man was the only one not in the house. Legend says, he had come home that night palm-twitching mad, malicious thoughts going through his mind. People say he was mad, because he was having family issues. Supposedly, the young man and his parents had a conversation earlier that day and it spiraled into a loud and heated argument. His sisters were not having it with him, so they continued to side with their parents instead of hearing out their brother. The real reasons as to why he was angry remain unknown.

Eventually, it got to the point where he was tired and could not stand it anymore, so he would leave to his hidden spot in some nearby woods. The young man was slipping into his phase of psychosis, and pure darkness took over him. Moreover, the night he had come home angry, his family was about to leave to church for an activity they had to attend. The church was small and in the middle of town. He was no longer in the right state of mind. He waited for his parents to leave. His parents got into their small, faded colored black car and the young man heard the roar of their car as they headed into town.

Once he had the house to himself with his seven sisters, he immediately lured one by one outside. The sisters were never thinking their brother would hurt them in any way. After he had a sister outside, he dragged each one to a separate hilltop and using his male strength, hung them all. Some of the sisters died slowly. They started to lose feeling in their body, color of skin became dull and bodies became cold as blood stopped rushing through their brains. Their vibrant and fearful screams were loud enough to pass through all the hills and even people who lived nearby were astonished at the horrific noises. All the sisters were tormented to death. The tight sensation in their ears and feeling of the rope around their necks was the last of feelings they had. After a while of hearing the screams, they faded. Once that happened, the brother disappeared. People do not really know what happened to the brother.

To this day, the small town of Nebraska City still passes the urban legend to those who are not familiar to the area. Locals warn visitors that the Seven Sisters Road is to be avoided, because strange things happen on the road, curving those seven hills. Some of the hills have been destroyed, trees have been cut down and searching for any evidence continues to happen in the woods. There has been no real physical evidence of the incident. Many cars who pass through the road have said that they hear women screaming or bells ringing. Cars have problems going down the road. Their car may stop on their own, weird radio sounds occur, headlights dim on their own and they do not grow brighter until the car is off the road. This urban legend shows how lost a soul may be. The seven sisters are still wondering around with nowhere to go, because of how tormenting their death was. That night, the sisters felt hopeless. It has been a hundred years since their brother killed them. The brother himself was ending his life by taking multiple lives as if they were actual trash. The land that was once owned by a family is now just viewed as a pass way. The Seven Sisters Road marks the loneliness and despair the seven sisters felt and may still feel now, because their spirits are not at ease and have not yet crossed over fully.
