While exciting, thinking about the future is not always easy. Today most students think about and are asked about their future plans on a regular basis. With the vast amount of job opportunities available, I have already begun to consider multiple career paths that I might enjoy. As Mother Teresa once said, “It’s not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.” In the same sense, I don’t want to merely work or have a job.
I want to enjoy what I do regardless of the challenges or level of difficulty.
My main priority, after graduating from high school is to attend college. I strongly believe that attending college is vital in acquiring the skills and knowledge I need in order to lead a successful, and productive life. College also provides more than just an academic aspect. Not only will I learn from books and lectures, but the college experience can help expand my knowledge of the world, and step out of my comfort zone.
After college, becoming an Aircraft Maintenance Officer in the Air Force would fulfill a lifelong goal. Growing up, I poured over books, movies, and news articles that chronicled the exploits of those who have served in the military. It has inspired me with a desire to do nothing more than stand in the face of danger, and do what needs to be done in order to protect my country and loved ones.
During my college years, I hope to study computer science while attending AFROTC.
This will provide me the chance to not only learn more about computers (hardware and software), but I will be able to understand how technology can be utilized in a business scenario. As a computer science major, I will be exposed to several relevant areas: robotics, artificial intelligence, and programming languages. By joining AFROTC, this would open the door to some erratic opportunities and advantages for me: having my tuition paid for through their scholarship program, earning a degree, and having the opportunity to be both a student as well as a cadet. I will be able to focus on my studies while learning more about leadership, and management skills that are necessary for my future role as an officer in the Air Force.
The college I hope to attend is the University of North Georgia. In recent years, UNG has become one of the top-performing colleges in Georgia. The main reason why I want to attend UNG is because it is one of only six Senior Military Colleges in the United States, and is the Military College of Georgia. They put a strong emphasis on leadership, integrity, and service. From uniform inspections to physical fitness tests to afternoon drills, my time on campus will prepare me for the future and the goals I have set before me. At the same time, I will be earning a degree in computer science, as I prepare for my career in the military.
