My Passion for Dance Essay

The literal definition of the word passion is any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling. To be completely honest with you, passion is much more than that, there isn’t a way to truly define the word passion. Passion isn’t just a feeling, it’s a force-an uncontrollable force- that fills our lives with joy, excitement, and meaning. Passion isn’t just a hobby-it’s something you live for. Passionisn’t supposed to be easy either, it’s supposed to leave you feeling challenged and exhausted.

Have you ever heard the quote “if it was easy everyone would do it”? Well, it’s true. Passion not only helps us feel accomplished, it sets ourselves apart from others, and allows us to be individuals. But what happens when your passion is ridiculed? I believe we were all born with a purpose, which is to follow our passion. If someone denigrates your passion that should never stop you from going after it-it should motivate you to prove them wrong.

The moment you give up on your passion is the beginning of the end of your purpose.

My passion is dance. Dance has been, and continues to be, a huge part of my life. I attended my first dance class when I was eight years old, and as the years progressed my love for the performing arts grew more and more. However, as I grew older the more I realized how under-appreciated the art, the sport, the skill, of dance is.

People claim that dancing is a waste of time, or dancing isn’t a sport, or dance won’t get you anywhere in life. In most cases, this is sad to say, family and friends will be the first people to try and talk you out of something that you are passionate about. They tell you this, not to discourage you, but because they don’t want to see you fail. And then there are the people who have no dreams, due to their lack of goals they will spend every day trying to halt you from reaching yours. I never let these comments bring me down, they aren’t useless.
