The question “Does God exist? ‘ Is an extremely expansive and immense topic that has been debated for centuries. This question has plagued mankind since we began to think logically. It is difficult to say whether there may or may not be a god, or even many gods, as we have limited knowledge regarding this issue. We currently even question God’s existence today, however the answer can never certainly and truly be found. There is evidence supporting his existence, but there is also evidence suggesting that his existence is not genuine.

The famous teleological and ontological horses both link to each other for this topic, as they are both recognized for agreeing through reason that God exists, however this Is opposed with the situation that they are based on common sense, but not fact, a belief that Descartes would agree with. The argument about God’s possible existence also leads many to believe that we created this figure to look to for guidance, to have someone to lead us, and also to blame.

Both teleological and ontological arguments stand on reason alone.

The ontological argument argues that since existence Is possible, to exist Is greater Han to not exist, thus God must exist. This concept portrays that someone declaring that “God does not exist” is contradicting, as according to this argument this would mean that something greater would have to exist, which Is not possible because you cannot have something greater than that which no greater can be formed. The teleological argument debates that it takes a designer to have a design, and in this case, the ‘designer’ is God.

This originates from the word tells, which means purpose, or goal. Every life form on Earth Is highly complex, such as a strand of DNA, intonating all programming for our entire bodies to function properly. Due to this theory, it cannot be a coincidence, as the chance of this randomly occurring is beyond imagination. Someone with an intention had to have existed to purposefully create such complex things. These philosophical hypothesis prove to an extent, that there Is a God-Like figure out there.

These arguments however, are both cemented by reason and common sense but not fact, which challenges the core thinking of what they both suggest. This interestingly links to Descartes, who believed hat there is more truth In intellect, rather than your common sense. Descartes viewed God as a perfect being. In order for people to have flaws and Imperfection, there must be an example of perfect flawlessness. Hence God exists because he is the representation of perfection in this theory. He famously states “Who keeps me in existence?

If owe it to myself, I would have given to me all sorts of perfections… Yet, evidently I am not perfect. ” By this, Descartes Is questioning who keeps him In existence. He states that If t was himself, he would have granted himself perfection, et he is obviously not perfect, proving in his philosophy that a higher being must exist, higher than human beings to grant and model perfection, portraying his view on the existence of God. Descartes believed that we as humans need a figure to look up to as an example and a leader. Our world revolves around leadership.

From leading a choir in a concert, to prime Minster, our world would run into chaos without it. God is a being of hope and a perfect figure to look up to for many. He is an pieces many people’s worlds together through religion, as that is what they choose to Ochs their life on and because of this, he gives people an idea of purpose in their lives. According to Plat’s theory of forms, for all things that exist (e. Emotions, physical objects) in our physical world, there is an ultimate or perfect form of it in another dimension, which in this case would be God.

He exists in our beliefs and imaginations because he is a leader to us, meaning that God does exist, simply not in this dimension. This ancient debate has evidence reinforcing that God is real, but is also balanced out by the evidence and opinions retaliating against this. People form their own opinions about this query by using their own Judgment and common sense, which is why the teleological and ontological argument applies so efficiently to this question. They both examine and verify rationally that God is genuine as a real being.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Descartes relied more on logic to consolidate his belief. He believed that if people were to have flaws and imperfections, we need an example of perfection to form this belief of imperfection, which is God. In a sense, God is a guide for us to understand our faults and blemishes. This points to Plat’s theory of forms, which also proves God’s existence in his concept. Because we have imagined, and ‘invented’ this idea of God, he is then certainly real in another dimension. Although these prove God’s existence, they only prove his existence in their philosophy and beliefs, and because of this, it can never truly be discovered if God is real or not, due to our insufficient knowledge about him.
