This movie marked Tyler Perry’s fifth outing as a director and it proved that beyond hilarious gimmicks and exaggerated narratives, he was capable of creating a potboiler that was full of suspense, honesty, and life lessons. With a seasoned cast including Alfre Woodard, Robin Given, and Academy Award winner Kathy Bates, the storyline was elevated even further. The film tells the story of two families, one wealthy and the working class whose lives become entwined in a very complicated way.
It is full of emotion and heartbreak but doesn’t go overboard on either one.
Adapted for a film from a Tony-nominated play of the same title, For Coloured Girls is one Tyler Perry movie everyone should see, particularly because it veers away from the style of movies that he has come to be known for. The movie is packing with star power featuring performers such as Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Janet Jackson amongst others. Although the script is glitchy in some places, the stellar acting more than makes up for it.
It’s a truly entertaining movie dedicated to celebrating all facets of experience for girls and women of color. It’s a compelling watch from the opening scene to the closing credits.
Although this film has Madea at the heart of it, it does not really revolve around her. Every character’s story seems just as vital and full of promise and makes you want to rethink everything you know about love, commitment, and family. It follows Madea as she tries to help her granddaughter whose husband left her to be with his mistress.
However, all her attempts at being helpful somehow end up making things worse and actually leads to her being placed on house arrest to avoid further complications. It’s a beautifully scripted and moving picture that you will thoroughly enjoy seeing.
Now, this is one movie that takes you on the rollercoaster ride of your life. It follows the titular marriage counselor as she tells a heart-wrenching story of the love that she has had and lost in her life. Although she marries her best friend whom she has known since they were both in high school, things start to get a little rocky and instead of fighting to make things work, she chooses to walk away and follow a better man. Things take a very twisted turn and she soon finds her life on the line. The movie reminds the viewers that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Initially, it might not seem like the best idea to pair a wealthy white family with a nontraditional working-class black family like Madea’s but it actually goes quite smoothly. George Needleman is forced to move with his family and hide out in witness protection at Medea’s house after his finance firm becomes entangled in a web of criminal activities that are spearheaded by the mob. In order to protect himself and the people he loves from being killed by these dangerous mobsters, he must accept help from a very unlikely place, and trust in the safety it brings.
The sequel to the well-received comedy-drama Why Did I Get Married, returns with the four couples on another getaway together. The goal is to reconnect with their friends and also spend quality time with their cherished partners, but once again disturbances lie in wait. An abusive ex-husband shows up and tries to win back the love of his former wife who is now happily married to her new boo. This leads to a very hilarious and unexpected unfolding of events that will leave you glued to your seats.
There are so many Madea movies to choose from in Tyler Perry’s creative canon and each one seems to be better than the last. However, Madea’s Family Reunion is one of the very best out there that you should definitely see. The family has found themselves in an uncomfortable situation. They have to hold a wedding and a funeral on the same day, so Madea has to step in and make sure things don’t get out of hand. This, of course, is a difficult task considering how large the family is, so Madea has to employ all the weapons at her disposal, literally and figuratively. It’s a fun movie to watch and the jokes are splendid too.
This star-studded ensemble tells the story of eight married friends who go on a vacation together in the scenic Colorado mountains but end up getting more than they bargained for out of the trip. It’s a wonderful story about love, trust, betrayal, and forgiveness and the many forms they can take in our lives. When you realize that your friend’s relationship is not as great as you imagined it to be, it forces you to take stock of your own and try to make things work for the better before they get out of hand.
Tyler Perry is at his best when he’s making a movie about a woman turning her life around. With Taraji P. Henson at the helm of affairs in this magnificent piece, every moment is truly captivating. It tells the story of three orphans who are sent to live with their aunt played by Taraji so they won’t end up in foster care. The aunt has problems of her own and really cannot be bothered to deal with raising three children that she did not give birth to, but a series of events soon changes her outlook on life. As far as Tyler Perry movies go, this one is a showstopper and everyone should definitely see it at least once.
No other Tyler Perry movie has sparked debates both in the real world and on social media as Acrimony. The psychological drama stars Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent, and Crystle Stewart as the lead characters. It follows a supportive and loyal wife who stands by her husband through thick and thin as he struggles to make a living by selling his battery designs. Money problems and infidelity soon send their marriage to the rocks, after which her husband becomes wealthy and marries another woman and so Taraji decides to seek out on revenge for the wrong she believes he has done to her. It’s a very emotional story so don’t be surprised if you find yourself choosing sides.
