How to Correctly Apply Face Makeup

Topics: Anatomy

In order to get a flawless looking, face by applying makeup, you need to know the ways and techniques. It does not really matter what brands you use, as long as they work well with your skin (oily, dry, or combination). Some people prefer certain brands of makeup; whether they are high end or drug store. Just get whatever you want because it really is not going to matter in the long run. If you want to go for the high end products, then do it, because it totally will be worth it in the long run with saving money.

It is just whatever you prefer.

The first thing you need to do is start out with a clean, washed face by using the face wash or whatever you are using. Next, you need to apply a moisturizer that works well with your skin with clean hands. You do not want to transfer dirt to your face because that can cause breakouts.

This step is very important, for it keeps your skin hydrated and looking alive. Let the moisturizer sit for a few minutes and then you can move on. By letting this sit, it is helping to soak into your skin so it can do its job.

The next thing you need to do is apply a primer. A primer is a base for foundation or any other makeup that allows it to go on smoother and to last longer. Formulas are available in cream, gel and powder. There are all certain kinds of primers.

You have spray primers, liquid primers, gel primers. You have primers for your face, eyes, and under eyes, and they are all important to use if you want your makeup to last longer. They all serve different purposes so you need to find the one also best for your skin type. After you choose your primer and apply it, you can then work towards the next step after letting it set.

When your primer(s) have finally set into your skin, you can pick out your foundation and your concealer. Again, there are so many different types of both. It can take quite a long time before you can figure out what kinds you like best. You also have to find the shade that is best matching to the skin on your neck. Your face is not always going to be the shade like the rest of your body. After finding the shade right for your skin, you have to choose to tool in which you prefer the apply your foundation and concealer. You can choose between: your hands, a beauty blend (a sponge), or a brush. The consistency of your products, such as if it was a liquid or cream would usually depend on what tool you would want to use.

After doing this step, apply your foundation first, following with the concealer. You always want to apply concealer after foundation so you can cover any imperfections the foundation did not correct; like blemishes, dark circles, or other impurities. The concealer and foundation also keeps your face from looking blotchy if you did not user primer and those two steps, for your other products are not going to sit well or apply on your face properly.

Following those steps, you need to set your concealer and foundation with a powder, whether it is loose or compact. It can either be translucent or match to your skin tone for which this is just whatever you prefer. Apply your powder directly to the places as needed with your face brush of choice. You also have another choice that is called baking, which is when you take a large amount of powder with a damp sponge and apply it to the areas you want a smoother surface, after it has set for a few minutes, you can brush it off.

Moving on to the face, you have blush, bronzer, contouring, and highlighting. All these products can be liquid, power, or cream. These are all crucial steps to make your face makeup come together. It does not matter in which order these are applied as long as these products are applied. Choosing whatever blush you want to use, then apply it with a brush on the apples of your cheeks. Next, apply bronzer to the face with a shade a bit darker than yours to the places where you want to seem more tan. Contouring is where you apply an even darker shade to the hollows of your cheeks, down the sides of your nose, and any other place you want more defined. Last, highlighting is taking your highlight of choice and applying to the highest points of your face like your cupid’s bow, your cheek bones, the bridge of your nose, right above your eyebrows in the temple area, and honestly where ever else you want.

The last step to face makeup is of course the brows. If you already have very defined, and beautiful brows, then you are blessed, but most have to take the extra step and fill theirs in. By doing this you can start by taking a brush that looks like a mascara brush and brush through your brows making all the hairs go in the right direction. Next, you can choose between using powder or wax to fill them in. You can take a small, defined, angle brush and fill them both in as evenly as possibly. Your brows are distant cousins, not sisters. Doing so, brush through them again and if you believe they will stay in place, then great, if not, take another extra step and set them with some clear or colored brow gel. After that, your face makeup is finally done!

Applying face makeup with the right products and techniques can be difficult to do, but with practice it is easily learned. Going to someone for help or just teaching yourself how to do it does not matter if learning how to do your makeup is all you want. Nobody is going to judge you (hopefully), so why should it matter how you learn? Being an expert is not going to happen overnight, but like they all say, practice makes perfect!
