When we’re born we’re thrown a script, we memorize our lines, and study our character, With our costumes laid out for us in the morning and we perform to a world that tells us how to act. Today more and more men throw away the script given to them, pick up a makeup brush, and choose to be who they are. We have a bad history of not being able to accept people that are different from us and choose to live off script.

With their new spokesmodel, James Charles, CoverGirl challenges the gender boundaries in our society. CoverGirl send a message with help of many of their spokesmodels is to anyone that views their new commerciali In these next paragraphs I explain how social construction is a problem and how CoverGirl is helping us move forward as a society. And recently we’ve seen the accomplishments the country has succeeded with the legalization same sex marriage in all 50 states.

(2009) But why are there only two roles available to us, boy or girl? A choice that will decide the answer to decisions we’ll face in the future. Pink or blue?

Strong or sweet? Masculine or feminine? “For some odd reason, our society has taught us to assume traits of gender.” So what happens when someone doesn’t want to read the script given to them and makes up their own lines? How can we tell a person how to act just off their gender? “Men are presented as hard, tough, independent, sexually aggressive, unafraid, violent, totally in control of all emotions, and above all in no way feminine.” In a world where men are told to be the complete opposite of feminine the topic of men wearing makeup hasn’t always had the best support but recently that isn’t the case. With gender being so scripted people expect everyone to act the same way and that isn’t the case. How can we make a script of a gender? Society constructed rules for each of us to follow that tells us how to act in the world, One of the rules prevents men from doing anything the worlds says in “unmanly”.

CoverGirl shatters the gender boundaries with their new CoverBoy James Charles. With such a well-known beauty company like CoverGirl going against the normal gender boundaries we see how accepting people have become throughout history and the accomplishments the LGBT community has achieved. CoverGirl tells TODAY that all CoverGirls are role models, boundary breakers, they fearlessly express themselves, they stand up for what they believe in, and redefine what it means to be beautiful, CoverGirl assures us that James Charles is no exception CoverGirl puts James Charles as their new spokesmodel and broadcast equality for everyone, even though there’s still people that aren‘t as accepting to others. CoverGirl says, “We support anyone and everyone who wants to express themselves with makeup. CoverGirl believes in beauty for all and we’re proud to welcome James Charles to the family.”

James Charles isn’t the first male the beauty community but with such a well-known makeup company like CoverGirl makes a huge impact in the media and in society. Breaking the gender norm that men can’t wear makeup with their new spokesmodel 17» year-old male James Charles in their new commercial. With the message of equality lash James Charles starts off the new $0 Lashy! commercial telling us about the new breaking through the Lash Finder. A feature on the mascara wand. So Lashyl’s Lash Finder, “turns every little lash in bold, sexy, so lashy lashes,” The new mascara is go for all different lash types; light, straight, short, fine. The commercial features many of their spokesmodel aspire many people and providing progress to equality, In this commercial they not only want to celebrate lash equality and sell their new product but also broadcast to anyone watching that makeup isn’tjust for one gender or race makeup and equality is” for me, for us, for all.”

Ending the commercial not with their usual slogan but a new and improved one “Easy, Breezy, Equal is beautiful… CoverGirl.” James Charles started as a 17-year-old lnstagrammer who expressed himself with makeup Today he’s the first CoverBoy and hopes to inspire others and give them the confidence to try out makeup. With James being the new face of such a well—known makeup brand we move closer to makeup becoming genderless and people more excepting to other males who decide to pick up a makeup brush and be who they are. Society says men should act a certain way but there’s people that fight the gender boundaries and choose to be who they are Cosmopolitan reporter Carly Cardellino asked James Charles what he thinks it will take for men to become more comfortable with grooming and makeup? James Charles replied, “I think the only way that men will become more comfortable will be if the stereotypes are removed Every guy who is comfortable doing so, however, is setting an amazing example and hopefully inspiring those around him.” James Charles inspires other people and with CoverGirl being so well-known in media it gives a big impact to society and pushes us forward to equality.

James Charles says, “It shows that this industry is actually becoming genderless and we’re really making the push towards equal opportunities for everyone; regardless of race, gender, or sexuality From the topic of men wearing makeup once being whispered about to Drag being last night activity behind closed door in the big cities to now the topic of men wearing makeup being displayed on billboards and screens across America There’s nothing wrong with the people that so fit the description of their gender. If that’s who you are) be you. Wilbur said, “There is something so beautiful about a man who doesn’t follow the common standards that society had constructed.” There’s something about a boy walking outside in a full face of makeup is like a personal advertisement of world excepting him for who he is As one male makeup blogger Arieh Simon wrote, “A large part of men in makeup isn’tjust about enjoying putting it on, it’s about destroying stereotypes.

With more men in makeup make their way on media people are different from the usual person on the street, James Charles isn’t the first guy in the media that wears makeupi On YouTube there are tons of male gurus with millions of subscribers that are also known in the makeup industry like Patrick Starr, many MUA, and Jeffree Star who outside of the internet has his own makeup company. A U.K. based makeup artist said, “Somehow our society decided that only women should wear makeupi” And makeup isn’tjust for one gender, Wilber said, “That today guys aren‘t just using makeup for its transformative powers.“ More men are fighting against the gender boundaries and by doing that makeup is becoming genderless, Lorber says, “Of the many influences on how we View men and women, media are the most pervasive and one of the most powerful,”

And with media having such a strong control over us media helps us thrive as a country for equality, Society is slowly moving closer to where a person is free to express themselves with makeup no matter their gender. Allowing everyone to become more accepting to the world and people around us. We have a bad history of not being able to except people that choose not follow the script of your everyday person We study about movements in our history books for equality for everyone; movements for Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, and LGBT Rights, We read about changes getting clone in our country, Over time people develop new ideas understanding of acceptances, equality, and stereotypes in the world disappear from society. A way of living and thinking that once was in our world are no longer here.

In media and in our everyday life we see changes that still needs to be done. With men knowing that people will expect them to read the lines given to them by society but still tossing the script out the window and being themselves, Media has a huge control on our perspective of the world and in our lives When we can move past the traditional gender boundaries and people be themselves without judgement we can except everyone for who they are and not focus on the differences between us all. Ultimately throwing away the scripts that tell us who we are While time places people become more comfortable in being who they are and not have to feel like they need to hide from the world. Hopefully, one day living in a world where everyone has the same rights and everyone is being treated for who they are as a person not if they wear makeup or not.
