Are you ready Rahma? My sister, Sahara asked. I was shaking so hard that the ground beneath my feet began to crumble. Get a grip I thought. But my teeth, legs, and arms were signaling for help.” it’s not scary at all Rahma I promise”. The ear-piercing screams coming from everywhere all around me sent shivers up and down my spine. There was no escape I had no choice but to give in. I inched forward and I swayed back and forth before I plopped back into the blue seat, “whew” My sigh of relief was short lived.
As one of the workers helped us fasten our seat belts, I knew that it was too late now to change my mind. I cringed when the orange seat belt was tapered around my shoulders.
When the bar came crashing down, I felt the strawberry milkshake that I had for lunch came up into my throat and the shivers down my spine returned.
I was sandwiched between my brother, Baker and my sister, Sahara there was no way out. My palms were sweating, I could hear my heart going boom, boom, boom! I could feel my heat rising in my face and ringing in my ears. I tried to keep my mind calm as we began to rise; Higher and higher. I can see some of the park below me. The people down below looked as tiny as insects crawling around. As we reached the top of the roller-coaster, I closed my eyes and tightly held on to my sister and brother’s hand.
My heart was pounding so fast as the roller-coaster soared around and down and around and down. “This is so scary!’ I shouted with a shaky voice ” Rahma, calm down, trust me okay” I am right next to you”. I opened my eyes and I looked at Sahara, she smiled and said: ‘I felt just like you when I rode the roller-coaster for the first time”. I gasped and put my hand over my mouth in disbelief. Sahara is not afraid of anything. I knew I could trust her especially when she said “trust me” I wanted to trust the roller-coaster too.
WOOSHH!!! Goes the roller-coaster. The might wind pushed my small head against the rubbery blue seat. My head banged into the back of my seat many times I got an excruciating headache and the strawberry milkshake back up into my throat. I can feel every sharp swing and twist that happened because with every swing my head would sway along as well. Then as if by magic I calmed down. I felt more alive than I have ever felt before. I was scared but at the same time I liked the feeling. This is not that bad I thought.
I honestly enjoyed the ride when I calmed down. We went up, down, left, right, upside down and all around. The roller-coaster is not as horrible I thought it would be, it was thrilling and exciting. When we came to a gliding stop exactly where we had begun, I went into a fit of giggles When we got out of the roller-coaster, I felt rush of energy and I wanted to run and jump and soar. I realized that this was one of the best days of my life. I had such an extraordinary time. Riding on the roller-coaster is now one of my favorites.
