Unlike the stories that are going to be mentioned they project disagreements within the family, hostility, and terror. The qualities of the characters in these stories are the most crucial factors on the outcomes of the said short essays.
A portion of the world experiences family-related issues ranging from parental abuse and living up to family expectations. Multiple ways to go wrong, but so few rights to those wrongs. Although, Family issues exist they provide a deeper understanding of how to correct what is wrong, yet at the same time create a new-found strong foundation for future endeavors to grow from.
First, a family is a basic concept that is introduced to people from a very young age; it’s a universal belief that has multiple meanings which depend on the people and their family. furthermore, in a family, there can be issues regarding the children or anything resenting them plus abusive parents. In addition, some parents end up caring for themselves and forgetting about their child for personal goals or obsessions.
In the story “The Rocking-Horse Winner” the family live a comfortable life compared to most others in that time, yet the recurrent issue is financial abundance which they seek. Hester the mother is obsessed with money and the ability to spend it on unnecessary items that don’t benefit the family. Another, creating a space with her children who are being affected by her lack of attention.
A relationship between a mother and child is crucial for kids to grow and be a better version of themselves.
In this case, Paul is seeking his mother’s attention which she gives to her expenses instead of him. Then for when only he starts winning the horse bids does, she begins to care. As the author expressed “she would feel a sudden anxiety about him that was almost anguish. She wanted to rush to him at once, and know he was safe” (Lawrence 306). Here the mother shows concern for her first-born child, but can it be because she really cares for her son’s well-being or the certain truth that he has luck winning the horse-racing bets. A bond with a mother and son is essential for a family to succeed and have a healthy status.
A mother’s heart turned to stone as her son is dying solely to gain her love. As well in the story ‘Everything that rises must converge” the relationship between the mother and her son is the true meaning of what disrespect and ignorance are about. Throughout the story Julián tries to convince his mom that racism and prejudice are wrong; however, he also does the same while showing his mother that it’s bad. Also, for not wanting to take his mother to her weight loss class. Both are being disrespectful and discriminating them saying they are less.
The mother is a someone who cares for her son, yet the son doesn’t admire what she has sacrificed for him get a college degree. Then again, the son is a hypocrite who justifies his action by purposely trying to get his mother mad, but is cautious to not raise her blood pressure. Finally, the mother dies by the actions of the son something they both tried to prevent from happening by going to the YMCA. Consequently, it’s too late to apologize and fix his mistake. Secondly, putting aside the issues, terror, and ignorance family is key to a happy life where dreams are supported and not at all judged.
Taking the risk that later down the road benefits are a blessing. My family used to endure being kicked out onto the street because of my father’s taste in alcohol. One change such as giving up on alcohol can make a significant impact and change life for better as mine did. In the story “The Drunkard” they depended on the father who was the breadwinner of the family had a drinking problem and would continue days on end. As shown in the story “Never again, never again, not if I live to be a thousand” (O’Connor, Drunkard 346).
To later realize that when his son reflected his own image when he was drunk, he gave up for his family’s well-being. How one action can create a foundation to move forward without worrying about an unstable ground. Furthermore, how at the end of the previous stories that passed all the blindness of being right or letting money an object be more important than a son or family which will always be there. In the moment where things are at stake do only the true colors of people come out like how in “A good man is hard to find” the grandmother was a selfish old person that considered herself superior above everyone else for she was a lady?
That didn’t help her at the end when the misfits shot her three times. Again, at the end did she become aware that her family died because of what she did and accepted it. Currently, we have situations that are splitting up families based on their documentation, and other key factors. It’s a blessing to be able to talk to someone, trust, and depend on what an amazing feeling. All that the characters in the stories had to was work out their problems correctly and find a proper solution. One thing that can be counted on even before friendship.
Third, the characters play key roles in a story and how the plot develops, and how it resolves. In “The Rocking-Horse Winner” the father was absent for when he was mentioned for a moment stating that he works to feed the mother’s hunger to spend money on herself. Hester is the devoting mother who cares what other people think of her. And she perceives herself as such even from her own children’s judgment. For example, the reason she wants to keep on spending money silly; therefore, a permanent image has been planted inside the children’s minds of their mother.
Like most issue-related families, the people in here represent a specific trait the mother’s greediness, the son passion, and Oscar the bad influence which showed Paul that gambling is a good thing. I myself have dealt with family issues as parents arguing because of money and the reason for the lack of it. Next, elements are created by the thoughts, words, and emotions of the characters like Larry from “The Drunkard” to emotionally support his dad and realize his actions. Then when Julian’s mother exceeds her physical limit leading to her death making her son realize what he did. Lastly, the grandmother selfish goal to satisfy her need above all others just to conclude that her status as a lady didn’t matter.
Mention by the Author “she would have been a good woman,” The misfits said, “if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life.” (O’Connor, “Good”4330). If her actions were just then she would have been truly a great person as described by the Misfit. Understand to see how to correct what is wrong. To conclude, experiencing Family hardships creates a concert understanding of where something went wrong and how to correct it. All, for a stable place to continue and improve. I think that family issues are an important business it is something that affects lives for better or for worse, so understanding by reading these stories and connecting them to personal experiences gives a sense of why it happens and the possible ways it can be resolved. First, the issues between mother and son are a bond that is never supposed to break.
By seeing the relationship in context and up close identifying the errors of a parent, child, or both. Next, expressing the idea that family is the most important thing to people. Using a combination of life-changing events that lead to better ones. Finally, how and why the characters affect the story and depict real-life traits such as greed, confidence etc. I think these concepts are essential to my title giving that Family Dysfunctions exist and that all depends on your actions, words, and consequences. Personally, knowing that all the troubles and bad mindsets can prevent the true path towards happiness unachievable.
