The idea of banning books has been a thing for many years. The novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is a good example. Many people think it should be banned for the language and storyline in this novel. It doesn’t make any sense because those things exist in this life too. This story has important things for students to learn. To Kill a Mockingbird is a very good novel and it really shouldn’t be banned. One of the reasons why it should not be banned is because it’s going against racism and prejudice.
This quote is an example of’ n-word-lover is just one of those terms that don’t mean anything—like snot-nose. It’s hard to explain—ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody’s favoring Negroes over and above themselves.
It’s slipped into usage with some people like ourselves when they want a common, ugly term to label somebody”. In this novel, Atticus is angry at the others because they don’t think of everyone as equal human beings.
The story is showing a way prejudice can stop people from making good decisions. Another reason is that this book is filled with important messages for people to learn. This novel teaches people important values in life, like standing up for what you believe in. As well as to be brave is when you start a goal and try even if you knew from the beginning you wouldn’t have accomplished it.
Students can learn many things from this novel.
A third reason is that the story can teach the readers new vocabulary. People that were living during the time of the novel used much better vocabulary than we do today. Even the characters used better vocabulary. Also, the younger kids used a much better vocabulary. If the book were to be banned the students wouldn’t be able to gain knowledge of their language and how to speak. This is a great novel for students to read and it really should not be banned. It shows important lessons and shows how racism was. Also it teaches us about this period of time in history before the rules against segregation were passed. Students would not be able to learn about people and their differences from this novel if it was banned. Not just students but people of all ages can learn something from reading To Kill a Mockingbird.
