Caring About Money Makes Us Lose Compassion Towards Other People

Do you think that some people care too much , and not about people? In today’s day and age, it is common for people to care more about money than anything else. I believe that most people don’t worry about others. They just worry about themselves and their money. That is just what today’s world has come too. Because a large amount of people care too much about money, they are losing compassion for other people. I believe that most people care more about money than others for a few reasons.

You see it everyday, people trying to make themselves look better than others by the amount of money they have. Some people will even put others down for not having a lot. You see this a lot in high schools. Whether it be girls comparing clothes, or guys comparing sneakers. Judging people by the amount of money they have is very common, unfortunately. In The Devil and Tom Walker, Tom shows that he cares more about money than people.

His whole life revolves around his fortune, even though he won’t spend a dime. He cares more about money than his wife, and it is obvious. One example from the reading is, “Tom at once approached him on the subject of the buried treasure-not the vanished wife, for her he no longer regarded as a treasure” (Irving paragraph 5). Tom does not care that his wife is dead, he just cares about the missing valuables. Tom Walker is a perfect example of people caring too much about money, and not enough about other human beings.
