Because his job description fits my aspiring career to be in the health field. It was also a job that I didn’t know much about but was also very interested in. Because he is a family friend and I used to babysit for his children, he was easy to communicate with and to set up a meeting with. I also think that he was a good pick, because he’s very open and honest about things which is much needed when you want to know about a future career you’re getting into.
Knowing just the positive aspects of a job is not always helpful, so getting both pros nd cons from an honest person helps a lot.
Information from the Interviewee. According to the interviewee, what are employers in this field looking for most when hiring a college graduate? (50 word minimum) Drive, ability to learn and most importantly being personable and being able to get along with other coworkers.
Also someone who is good with communication towards not only patients but with their fellow coworkers. We don’t just look at intelligence or experience we look at personality as well, because it such an important factor. What is the interviewee’s career like today? Include a general description, educational expectations, necessary qualifications, etc.
An Orthopedic surgeon sees patients every day, somedays in the office evaluating their problems, other days its in the operating room fixing their problems. So patients will come into the office with pain or issues in their musculoskeletal system, because that’s what we specialize in, and we diagnose and perform surgery if needed.
Sometimes patients don’t need surgery and we either put them on preventative care so issues don’t get worse or we recommend therapeutic solutions. Most of the surgeries performed at our office consist of the lower extremities such as the hip, back, ankle, etc. but we also perform surgeries in the hand, shoulders and arms, so all over the body but the lower areas are more common in our specialty. Mr. Akhtar sees about 20 patients a week and only about 1-3 of these patients receive surgical treatment. Some educational requirements consist of a High school diploma and a college degree, then completion of medical school, and finally, at least 5 years of training after medical school. I graduated college with a degree in electrical engineering because you can enter medical school without a specific major.
He received his degree from Rutgers University and the University of Pennsylvania. Went on to work as a an engineer before entering the medical field. He then received his MD from the new jersey medical school in 2003. An Orthopedic surgeon must be very skilled in hand and eye coordination and have good and effective problem-solving skills because one small mistake could create bigger issues. What does the interviewee believe that career/field be like in the future (in 5-10 years)? The profession will continue to be great and there will be plenty of work to do because the population is growing and people are aging so that means more work to do. As people age, they tend to have more musculoskeletal problems involving tendons, joints, and bones beaus they become much weaker, so that results in huge demand for orthopedic surgeons. We definitely anticipate new and improved technological advances in our field of work, which will hopefully not take over our job but make it easier for us to do our job.
I’m not too worried about the future of orthopedic surgery because it’s a job that won’t change much in the future. What motivated you to choose this career and what was the hardest part of your career journey? I get to help people and its very tangible, people come in with pain and when I’m done with them they don’t have pain. The hardest part of the journey was being persistent and patient. Thinking back to your Focus 2 results and what you learned in the interview, how do your interests, abilities, and values match with the current requirements of this career? How will they match in the future? None of my results from the focus 2 assignments matched my aspiring career, most of the results had nothing to do with what I want to pursue in the future.
But besides that My aspiring career is within the medical field which does have some similarities with this current career. Both careers require medical experience and medical school. Some similar necessary skills include communication, problem-solving, empathy, and respect. How did your interview impact your perspectives on your chosen career choice? You might want to consider any strengths you might have or challenges you might face in pursuing this field. You might also consider whether you are more likely or less likely to pursue this career based on what you learned in the interview. Well, first I did not know how many orthopedic surgeons made until I researched the career, because of the interview.
I found out that orthopedic surgeons are the highest-paid surgical specialty. I believe that this could be something I might pursue in the future, it will be added to the list of potential careers. I also believe I carry some of the required skills needed to be an orthopedic surgeon, I have very steady hands because I make art and do henna tattoos which requires a very still and coordinated hand. I think art really helped me in that aspect. I’m also very empathetic towards others and always seem to want to solve other people’s problems. One challenge I think that I would face is the school aspect of it. Everyone knows how medical school is and I would be missing out on a lot during those four years. Patience is another challenge I would face because of how long the journey is. another challenge is balancing your daily life with the amount of work. But despite the challenges, I think that this could possibly be something I can achieve in the future if I dedicate my days and time to this career.
