Dee Brown’s book, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. This non»fiction story takes place in the West of America in the late lBOD’s, from the point of View of an American Indian. This story explains in a straightforward way that the white men of our own country were murderers, It’s about over the course of thirty years what happens to the culture of native American Indians and what causes it to fade. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is from the ignored point of view, because it’s from the honest point of View.

The white men immediately became superior to the American Indians because of their cruelty. They ignored the natives beliefs and general rights to their own land and values. Some parts of the book horrified me like when the Cheyenne were at Sandy Creek. Instead of Violently defending themselves, Left Hand stood and said he would not fight the white man and he was shot.

So many helpless children were victims and everyone killed was scalped, This is just one of the many violent events that encountered the unfortunate and deienseless Cheyenne tribe, General Pope and Governor Ramsey were simply angered because President Lincoln refused to immediately hang 303 Santee’s. This book constantly reminds me of what cruel and ruthless men the white soldiers were. The American Indian culture faded away by high numbers of death, havmg to constantly move around, and infiltrating with other tribes. In the late 1870’s, a mixed group of Northern Cheyennes and Oglala Sioux, looking for a peaceful place and settling near Powder River, were attacked by Colonel Joseph J.

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is dramatically told from the American Indians point of view. By documents and first hand descriptions, it shows the truth, In the beginning of this book General Carleton was determined to wipe the Navaho’s. As the book goes more in depth you‘d see that it was only the beginning and the way the Navaho’s were treated was Just a small taste of how things were to come. On September 5th 1877 Crazy Horse died haVing been stabbed in the abdomen. His mother carried the heart and bones of her son and buried Crazy Horse at the creek called Wounded Knee.

This is an example of how events that occur from their point of view are much more dramatic and unjustified. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. which was told from a perspective that is not usually shared because of how brutal and rough it was. is a good book but not my type of book. It was hard to understand everything that happened. This book is about one of United States major events of history. Reading this book makes me ashamed of how us Americans treated other people of the American land so cruel. After reading this book I do give a lot more respect to the Native Americans than I really did before.
