After taking the survey to determine a career category that is best suited for me which my result was the conventional category. This category is best suited for people who works best with deadlines, routines, and guidelines. Mostly more analytical rather than creative occupations, dealing with data and details. I do see myself working in the conventional category knowing that I work best with structure and routine in the workforce and knowing that I don’t have to stress about inconsistent times and lack of organization.
The two career paths that interested me the most from the conventional category was dentist assistant and medical secretary. A medical secretary is a person who attends to patients at the front desk, answers the phone, schedules appointments, interview penitent’s case and medical history.
They also transfer lab results to the correct patients and operate computer software and office equipment (thebalancecareer.com). A dentist assistant handles patients to ensure they are comfortable, prepare procedures and operations.
Plus, they educate patients about dental hygiene and assist the dentist by handing them with the appropriate instruments and tools for the procedure (bls.gov). I’d prefer to be a dentist assistant because I like to be more hands-on procedures and help educate and aid the patients themselves. Plus, the occupation offers a good median wage of $40,080 , which will help me live comfortably enough to sustain myself. Whereas the median wage for being a medical secretary is $35,760.
My choice might change overtime of being a dentist assistant due to the fact that I might lose interest in a constant routine over a long period of time or try pursuing a different career in the same field.
I might change my choice a different way and advance into the title of dental hygienist. Before I took the survey, I wanted to become a mortician and or embalmer, working with the deceased and the family of the deceased. Both occupations deal with assisting people and both deal with chemistry and biology. Dental assistants aid dentist in procedures along with caring and preparing patients. Morticians aid funeral directors in funeral processions along with caring and preparing the deceased.
Being a dental assistant has the benefits of working in a nice, clean, and quite work environment which will help me greatly because I cannot handle loud and stressful situations and can unfortunately lead to worsen my anxiety disorder. Another benefit is that training and education doesn’t take up too much time and only takes up to a year. This is beneficial because I don’t have to spend thousands and upon thousands of dollars trying to get my education and take a short course that can give me more time to do more training especially on the job. The cost is that I can suffer from back and neck pain due to the constant sitting in uncomfortable chairs for long periods of time and improper poster (deltatechnicalcollage.com). I’ll have to deal with body fluid from the patient when assisting in procedures and biohazards such as used needles and syringes for numbing.
