According to the article:’ Raising the Minimum Wage Does Not Increase Unemployment’, Skarl(2009) believed that the national economy would be stimulated and the employee would be prevented to become more cheaper by raising the minimum wage. The author provided many instance due to explanation that increasing the minimum wage cannot trigger the increasing of unemployment and business closures. On one hand, an increasing part of labours who live in a floor of the minimum wage have to use their slight salary to buy necessities which they have to pay for; as a result, they cannot afford the middle-class standard of living.
On the other hand, the income of the richest has increased. Moreover, consumer spending is a significant part of recovering from economic crisis.
If government rises minimum wage, economic will be stimulated because labours must spend additional dollars for daily use, such as food, fuel, housing, education, and other necessities. In addition, some economists say ‘if employees don’t obtain a living wage, the whole society need to pays.
Some people who oppose the minimum wage growth claim that unemployment rates will be increased. But, according to widespread research, such as in the U.S. between 1990 and 2006 higher minimum wages does not impact employment, has disproved this opinion. Furthermore, the wage ground is set by the minimum wage; as a result, if we want to raise the economy, the minimum wage should be lifted. As the purchaser does not obtain a maintenance wage, they have to choose the ‘bargain’ things.
As a result, according to researches the minimum wage should be a living wage. In the end of the article, the author emphasizes that raising the minimum wage to satisfy living necessity should be executed no matter in moral times or immoral, and can help us to triumph over economy crisis.
In this article the Sklar(2009) argue that the minimum wage should be raised to make sure that satisfy living necessities. The author present many evidences to prove that raising the minimum wage will help to lift the economy. When the article was written, Sklar was the director of the Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign and she is an author and syndicated columnist, policy analyst and strategist. So the source and data in this article is considerably authoritative. The article analyse many aspects in showing why the minimum wage should be raised to lift economy and doesn’t increase unemployment rate.
The information seemed well research and enough examples are given, which show the main point of view in the article. But, one of examples to old (1933) cannot support the author’s opinion. Even though the article was published in 2009, the prediction in this article was reasonable. As this article is just one material trying to support to increasing the minimum wage does not increase unemployment, I need to find some other articles which give a different view or hold a balanced opinion.
