Successful Project Turned Program

Topics: Studying Abroad

When I started thinking of a project to choose for this assignment, I wanted to write about a project of my own country, the one that gave me opportunity to study abroad, so I chose a project that became a program of a whole country – “Bolashak”. “Bolashak” – the word means “Future” – is a program of JSC “Center for International Programs”. It is a program that allows high-performing students of Kazakhstan to study abroad all-expenses paid. Simply saying, it is a scholarship.

However, 26 years ago – 2 years after Kazakhstan took its independence – in 1993, this scholarship was just a project. A project that would increase number of specialists in different fields in Kazakhstan by sending students abroad, so they would gain experience in leading countries around the globe.

“Bolashak” International Scholarship was established on November 5, 1993. The scholarship has been established because Republic of Kazakhstan needed high-qualified specialist right after the country took its independence. Therefore, for the first time in history of post-soviet countries students were able to study abroad.

At first, the number of countries and students were limited. There were 4 countries, which students could choose to study – USA, Great Britain, Germany and France. First 30 students studied there, came back, and used their knowledge to improve different areas of the country, such as economy and healthcare. The very first project of sending students abroad was successful, and a project became a big program that exists even now. Year by year, the importance of the program rose and nowadays there are up to 1000 students every year, who can choose one of the 200 best universities of 33 countries.

The project, at first, was established by the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2011, the role of maintaining this program was given to JSC “Center for International Programs”, which was established on April 4, 2005. One of the functions of the Ministry of education and science is to increase level of education in country. Therefore, its mission is to provide the people of the country with high quality education and promote ideas of enlightenment. As for JSC “Center for International Programs”, its main goals is to form a new generation of professionals and specialists that will raise the level of development of the country, through training high-qualified specialists in different areas.

As we can see, the project or now the program “Bolashak” fits the mission and the goals of both organizations perfectly. Both organizations operate to raise educational level in country and “Bolashak” successfully plays its role in this activity. The very first project of sending students abroad was a huge success for the country, such success that now this project became a program that in 26 years gave more than 11 000 students an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge from top universities of most developed countries around the world.
