A Paramedic/EMT is an emergency medical technician who is trained to give people emergency treatment in case of a medical emergency or accident (“Emergency Medical Technicians”). The difference between an EMT and a Paramedic is an EMT that can do CPR, glucagon, and Oxygen while a Paramedic can insert an IV, administer drugs, and apply pacemakers (“EMT VS. Paramedics”). A usual day for a paramedic would start by making sure they have everything for their shift. Then they would wait on standby until a call.

They would usually have 5 to 10 calls a shift, a shift is either 12 or 24 hours long. But there isn’t a regular day for a Paramedic or an EMT because the situation always changes from gunshot wounds to giving birth (“A Day in the Life of a Paramedic”). I want to pursue this career because I find it very interesting and I want to help people. I also took a wilderness first aid class which was interesting.

Paramedic training may result in an associate degree, EMT-basic and EMT-intermediate training have to be completed first. To be an EMT it takes 1-3 years depending on your career path but to be a paramedic it takes longer. To be a paramedic or an EMT you could use an apprenticeship or a college but there are a couple of ways you could do it. To begin EMT training you would require a high school diploma or GED. High school students should focus on courses involving math, physics, chemistry, and biology.

In conclusion, my ultimate career goal is to become a Paramedic in Anchorage Alaska. Once I get out of high school I will go to the University of Montana in Missoula. There I would like to get my associate’s degree as an EMT. Then I would like to do some on-site work and get certified as an EMT. Then I would like to take the necessary courses and training to become a paramedic. After accomplishing these tasks I will be a paramedic. Then I just have to save up enough money to move and buy an apartment in Anchorage Alaska and find a job there. I have taken a wilderness first aid class so I am certified, I am also diabetic so I have experience with medical things. I also have had good grades up until the stay-at-home order because of Covid-19.
