In a world where consumers are becoming increasingly more aware of how the products that they are buying are being produced, Companies are doing their best to follow these trends and align their mission with the issues that people are concerned about. One trend that has become more prominent in the corporate world is the conservation and protection of land and waterways.
Companies such as Mcdonald’s, Pure Leaf, Charmin, and Kroger, have stepped up and made an ethical change in the way that they retrieve their inventory (“Certified Products”).
These Companies, along with many more, have taken the step to receive the Rainforest Alliance Certification. Farms that provide products to these companies, and are certified, must meet certain criteria. Their standard is built on important principles of sustainable farming that include biodiversity conservation, natural resource conservation, effective planning and farm management systems, and the improved livelihoods of workers (Rainforest Alliance, 2018).
These farms are audited regularly to make sure that they are making continuous improvements in the area of sustainable agriculture (Rainforest Alliance, 2018).
Every day six thousand plus acres of natural land are lost to development, which is why it is incredibly important to take care of the land and natural resources that we do have available (Partnership for Conservation). The Rainforest Alliance has made a significant mark on the planet and the companies that are certified by them. Because of the Rainforest Alliance, sixty-two nations have active sustainability training, over one million three hundred thousand people have been trained in earth-friendly land management practices, and over ten million eight hundred thousand acres of land are under sustainable management (“Impact Dashboard”).
Seven hundred sixty-two companies have the Rainforest Alliance certification (“Certified Products”).
Like many of the other companies that are associated with the Rainforest Alliance, every bottle of Pure Leaf tea has the certification stamped on it (Pure Leaf, 2018). Along with the stamp, is a message about their mission and a little bit about how it is helping create a better environment. This is not only a sign of ethical practices but also a great marketing move on their part. The bottle states, “Every single bottle of Pure Leaf is made with tea from Rainforest Alliance Certified estates. These estates are committed to using methods that protect the land, the surrounding waterways, and the health and livelihoods of their workers. Together, Pure Lead and the Rainforest Alliance are helping to build a more sustainable tea industry for future generations (Pure Leaf, 2018).” Even Pure Leaf’s slogan, “Real tea, done right,” shows their commitment to sustainability and protecting the land.
As I have previously mentioned, seven hundred sixty-two companies have the Rainforest Alliance Certification. This just goes to show, that conserving our land and protecting our environment, has become a corporate trend. These companies have seen that this cause is important to their consumers, and have taken extensive measures to make a change in the way that they receive their inventory.
