“To kill a mockingbird” is about segregation and how the white people doesn’t like the black people so they have their differences with each other. Atticus Finch is a lawyer that is defending a black man known as Tom Robinson. In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” atticus’s residents are upset at him because he cares for everyone and he is not racist. Atticus made thoughtful choices because he wanted to teach his kids that no matter what their color of skin is to always treat others good and to not be like the other people in the county who despise black people.
Some of the residents where confused on how he can help a black man win over a case that deals with his own kind. They didn’t like how he can go against his own people and even though Atticus knew deep down that he wouldn’t win he helped anyway to teach a lesson to always keep your head up and try.
Throughout the book Atticus Finch is trying to teach meaningful lessons to his kids (which are Jem and Scout) to learn the right way through life. He tries to get them to understand what is going on in their county and to not listen to the residents because they think different and wrong. He hopes that they will listen to the truth by him so they won’t be scared for the trial .On the page 119 in “ To kill a mockingbird” it says that “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy.
They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.” At the time Jem and Scout didn’t understand until the trial came then they realized the lesson was not to treat others badly just because of their skin color.
Atticus Finch doesn’t care what the other people in his county says or thinks of him about him defending a black man against a white woman. During the trial Atticus tries and does his best to state facts that is defendant is not guilty. Since the judge was white and the jury was too they all accused him on being guilty. They knew that they couldn’t win because of racism but Atticus tried because he cares for everyone and he wanted his kids to look up on him and be the same. He wanted them to follow his actions even when the county didnt like it and he wanted Jem and Scout to not listen or take things to the heart when the residents talk down on their family.
In conclusion, Atticus Finch and his family play a big part in the book “To kill a mockingbird” because throughout the book they all learned the importance of understanding others. They also learned not to treat others that may be different differently because at the end everyone is the same. Atticus actions affected his family and some of the neighbors because he stood up for someone that was different that made them think a little differently.
