A Comparison of the Autobiographies of Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X

In the autobiographers “Narrative Of the Life Of Fredrick Douglass an American Slave” and “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” both go through the process of learning to read and writer They are similar in many ways. Each writer talks about the historical and African American civil rights, They both are emotional because they were in a complicated position, Douglass with slavery and Malcolm with whites vs. blacks Douglass and Malcolm X went through the process and went into detail describing how they learned to read and writer They went through obstacles and they accepted the challenges to read and writes While in prison Malcolm X with his tablet and a dictionary taught himself to read and write.

“The ability to read awoke inside of me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive”.

Malcolm took charge he wanted to do something and he accomplished it and worked for it while pushing through the hard times Douglass teaches himself with strategies like getting lessons from the white boys he met on the streets, a book he kept with him and baileys ship yard.

Both men see that their language is a threat and puts them on a target to white people. “From this time I was most narrowly watchedr If I was in a separate room any considerable length of time, I was sure to be suspected of having a book, and was at once called to give an account of myself” They are both excited for their accomplishments “I woke up the next morning, thinking about those words iimmensely proud to realize that not only had I written so much at one time, but I’d written words that I never knew were in the world”
