The Puritans had judgmental minds during their time. even today there is still a lot of judgment being used. In The Ministers Black Veil and Young Goodman Brown both stories deal with being judged by others. Also, a similarity dealing with both of the short stories and the Puritans. is their religious values. A big resemblance In the two short stories is sin and this is also true with the Puritans. Although Young Goodman Brown and The Ministers Black Veil share the same religious values and the automatic judgment of people they went about the way of handling Sln differently.
Judgment being one of the biggest resemblances in Young Goodman Brown and The Ministers Black Veil has a big effect on how the two authors actually portray the Puritans. The Ministers Black Veil shows the Puritans judge others happening in this story by stating that Hitherto. whenever there appeared the slightest call for such interference. he has never lacked advisers nor shown himself averse to being guided by their judgment.
This is saying that the Puritans had a lot of interference With judgment. In Young Goodman Brown. It was strange to see that the good shrank not from the wicked. nor were the sinners abashed by the saints. During the time of the Puritans, many people were being judged for many reasons. one is that if they believed in a other sorority than God. there was a harsh punishment. Judgment is not only wrong but people deserve to be given the choice of religion.
The Puritans and their religious values; beliefs became a big similarity that shows how the beliefs are represented in Young Goodman Brown and The Ministers Black Veil. Life was hard. but in this stern and unforgiving place, they were free to worship as they chose.
The Puritans were able to worship wherever and whenever they wanted. Though they had the right to worship. no one had ever worshiped throughout the forest. They say The hoofs clattered again; and the voices. talking so strangely in the empty air. passed on through the forest. where no church had ever been gathered or solitary Christian prayed. Although religion was one of the biggest similarities with the Puritans in Young Goodman Brown and The Ministers Black Veil sin also becomes important when relating these stories to how to Puritans themselves actually lived. The Puritans in some way did not approve of this but in both of the short stories they showed the way they believed in the point of View. Both short stories dealt vague with sin in ways that were supported by the Puritan’s lifestyle. In Young Goodman Brown sin was talking to the devil Goodman Brown handled his way of sin by letting his wife mentor his religion and to help hide the sin he has committed.
Reverend Hooper The Minister of Black Veil helps cover up sin by covering his face With the black veil itself. The Puritans themselves say Human beings were depraved sinners. Both short stories deal With sin the same way but they use different values to acknowledge the sin. People can not hide from their sin. one day the stain of sin will ruin the good in the soul. The Puritans are just as overstated today as they were in the late 16005 due to the religious values they brought over with them to America, This was shown in both short stories the way that they respected their religious values. their unpardonable sin, and their judgmental focus on others. Those three aspects show the religious focus of people today is stronger than what it would have been. if it had not been for the Puritans coming over to America.
