The Monkey Man of Delhi

Considering some modern phenomena, movement, and political activity in the modern era that makes the news is overabundant. One of the most influential things that affect the reality of the mind is hysteria. Throughout the history of mankind, there have been prime examples of mass hysteria that have affected the outlook of it actually happening or not. The mass hysteria that I have found interesting started in India which people named the incident, “Monkey-man of Delhi” and that the hysteria has caused people to either be hurt or even death.

The Monkey Man of Delhi, which was classified as a monster who has roamed the city of Delhi (Which is a territory of India), was reported in the mid-2001 and was described as a prime example of mass hysteria in India. It all started in the month of May when citizens of New Delhi begun reporting the sighting of a monkey-like creature that had been attacking people during the night. Many of the witnesses accounts of the strange creature were usually inconsistent but they all had the same physical description of the creature stating, it to be the height around four feet tall, covered in thick black fur, and even having a metal helmet along with metal claws and demon looking red eyes.

Some other eyewitnesses described the monkey looking man having a foxing looking snout and even reaching the height of being eight feet tall and having a muscular physique that helps it leap from building to building. Following the reports of a strange creature roaming the night, residents of Delhi braced themselves of having another night of growing sleeplessness and a strong sense of increase fear of these abnormal attacks caused by this mysterious looking demon that has the form of not only a human by of a monkey as well.

Following the citing of this mysterious creature, not only have people been harmed by this creature resulting in being left with scratched marks and even biting marks, some people even have been reported dead after being panicked by the creature by jumping off the top of buildings or falling down staircases trying to escape the creature. Of course, the police have received complaints of the attacks and started to have a professional sketch artist to draw the appearance of the creature described by major eyewitnesses. Despite have an overwhelming number of sightings, the police were unsure if it was an animal or if it was actually a man. Furthermore, since the sightings of the creature have been reported over multiple areas of the city, the police had suspected that there could be more than one man looking creature.

Fortunately, after the month of May had passed, the mass hysteria of the monkey-looking creature had finally passed, for no further mention of the creature was reported. Interestingly, the residents of Delhi were not the first victims of this similar phenomenon, for a “scratcher” known as Springheel Jack who had appeared in the city of London in 1837 who had also wore dark looking clothes, piercing red eyes and sharp iron-clawed fingers in which he would also scratch his victims and was never found… but that’s a story for another day.
