Walter Mitty’s character in the short story “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” is very entertaining compared to Monika’s perception of life that happens to be unique. Walter Mitty is someone who is a dreamer, lives a fantasy life, and imagines himself living many different scenarios. His character compared to Monika’s View of life is very different, for example Monika feels people should work for their achievements and chase after their dreams, Walter Mitty is a well~mannered man who has many heroic day dreams in his life; he has a life where he plays five different roles.
Walter Mitty‘s character has a broad imagination, “He wore his full-dress uniform, with the heavily braided white cap pulled down rakishly over one cold gray eye.
We can’t make it, sir. It’s spoiling for a hurricane, if you ask me.” That phase from the short story “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” describes his imagination of being a pilot of a US Navy flying boat in a huge storm.
Monika‘s general perception of life is that it’s an emotional rollercoaster; everyone is striving for happiness, and trying to find the things they can’t have, Monika feels that we should live life with all the struggles we faced with even though at Limes it‘ll be hard. “”Hmm?” said Walter Mitty. He looked at his wife, in the seat beside him, with shocked astonishment. She seemed grossly unfamiliar, like a strange woman who had yelled at him in a crowd”
That phase portrayed how Walter Mitty can lose track of the real world, and how he lives a whole different life in his head.
Monika believes that we should realize the things that are important to us, and not get caught up in a make-believe life we have in our head. “He drove around the streets aimlessly for a Lime, and then he drove past the hospital on his way to the parking lot.” In that phrase Walter Mitty just drove past the hospital and suddenly he was back into his dream world where he was now a surgeon performing a surgery. Therefore, Walter Mitty‘s character in the short story “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” is very entertaining compared to Monika’s perception of life that happens to be unique.
