“Animal Farm,” written by George Orwell, was a story of tyranny, oppression, revolution, and then the repetition of that cycle. The story begins with Old Major, a prized old boar, telling the farm animals of his dream. His dream consisted of the animals to revolt against the tyranny of man and to better their lives as animals. Three days later, Old Major dies, and the animals begin feverously to organize a rebellion, Immediately, three pigs, Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer, announce that they are the smartest animals and should be leaders The animals eventually kick out Mri Jones, the farm owner, and the farm’s name is changed to Animal Farm.
The farm begins to prosper under the rule of the animals more accurately the pigs Napoleon and Snowball begin to struggle for more power and influence between the two, Snowball comes up with a windmill idea to generate electricity at a democratic meeting between all the animals.
Napoleon responds by sending his loyal guard, Pincher and the gang of dogs, to chase Snowball out of the farm.
Napoleon> then, assumes all leadership power and ends the democratic meetings and announces that all decisions will be made by the pigs, Squealer becomes Napoleon’s trusted propagandist, and he is always reassuring the animals that Napoleon is acting for the best interest of all of them, Squealer is constantly changing the commandments, principles the animals had come up with since the rebellion, to fit with whatever Napoleon is doing at that moment Napoleon begins to purge all of the animals he thinks have been associating with Snowball.
The aspect of getting rich and greed pushed Napoleon to trade with the humans, a forbidden act, and became what the animals destroyed in the beginning: a tyrant, The pigs began to stand on two legs, wear clothes, and live in houses At the conclusion of the novel, the common animals cannot tell the difference between the pigs and humans as they play cards at the table, George Orwell wrote this novella to comment on the ailing situation occurring in Soviet Union at this time. Old Major resembled Lenin or Marx, Napoleon obviously symbolized Stalin, and Snowball portrayed Trotsky, a political opponent of Stalini Trotsky was more of a communist in the original sense of the word, as Stalin was a military totalitarian who could care less for the people Orwell was a known socialist; however the communist activity occurring in the Soviet Union disturbed him greatly because it was not firmly stable upon the fundamental ideals of communism.
Once the proletariats, in this case the animals, take over the government, the humans, the government should eventually dissolvei ”Animal Farm” eloquently and accurately describes the political mess in the Soviet Union during this time I would highly recommend everyone to read this novella because it is short, however very deep with symbols, it does an excellent job in commenting on the failed communistic takeover in Russia Orwell’s observation on the Soviet Union was solely correct due to the fact that Stalin has used military force to control the people, and he ran Trotsky out of Russia so Stalin could hold all power. He even purged Trotsky’s followers just as Napoleon did to Snowball’s followers “Animal Farm” is a ’must read’ filled with an entertaining plot and satirical parallels in reality. I strongly encourage people to read or re-read this novella, so that one could gain more insight on the reasons for the Soviet Union’s decline and eventual extinction.
