On the Civil Rights Movement

About three years ago i lived in Alabama which is one important place relevant to the topic I chose. It was a topic that would be discussed almost daily at school. especially in history class. I remember being impressed by the way everyone paid attention to the words of the teacher when we learned this lesson. Most of the time I could not comprehend much because lwas still learning English. but from what I understood it was a topic that caught my attention.

This year‘s History Fair gave me a chance to do research on the Civil Rights Movement and learn more about it. To get this project together i first did a lot of research. Iwent on Internet and gathered basic information. I also made notes on the background knowledge i got from my previous school. Ithen went to the library and picked two very interesting and useful books related to the topic.

I asked a librarian for a list of primary sources and she helped me find them.

At school I did all the worksheets the teacher assigned, which were very helpful for organizing the information, I plan on doing a backboard because it lets me organize the ideas with not only text. but graphics and charts as well. I’ll put a timeline of the events that made the most important turning points In the Civil Rights Movement. I Will add events that happened before and after the Civrl Rights Movement. Iwill also include pictures of important people like Martin Luther King Jr.

This topic relates to the theme “Turning Points in History” in various ways. It brought America closer to becoming a country where people can be treated equally. It changed the way we live today because if it had not happened America would be portrayed as a nation torn between right and wrong, It would be a nation where people are close»minded and stuck between the past and the present. It’s also one of the reasons Obama is the president of the United States. I think that if the Civil Rights Movement had not occurred the rest of the world would not believe that the U.S is a place for all people rich or poor. black or white, young or old.
