Friendship, Hate & Loyalty in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a story about friendship, hate, and loyalty. It shows a powerful relationship between two boys, one being German and the other being Jewish. This relates to the Jewish Holocaust and WW2 because the story takes place in Nazi Germany. After reading this novel and doing a book report on it, I have gain insight on friendship, hate, and loyalty. To begin with, l have much insight on friendship because the story revolves around one that is powerful and unbreakable.

From this, I have learned what true friendship is and how to maintain it. To clarify, I have learned more on how to care for one another and how to have each other’s back no matter the circumstance.

This was shown when Bruno took care of Shmuel by providing him treats and when Bruno agreed on helping Shmuel find his missing father. The boys still kept their friendship even though their society thinks the opposite of what they think.

By this, I understand how society can be wrong at times and that it cannot tell you who you can’t care for Additionally, I have gained much insight on hate. During the holocaust, there was severe resentment between the Jewish people and the Nazis. From doing the book report, I grasped more ideas of how the hate was conveyed. For example, in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, the Nazi soldiers were respectful and kind to Bruno, whereas to Shmuel, they treated him with hate and pity.

Therefore, after doing the book report, I have gained knowledge on animosity between the innocent Jewish people and the Nazis during the holocaust. Finally, I have much insight on loyalty because Bruno and Shmuel from the Boy in the Striped Pajamas were very loyal to each other. From this, I have knowledge of loyalty can truly change a person‘s life. To clarify, in the story, Shmuel’s life was depressing and unfortunate, so Bruno came to Shmuel as a friend. Although they both got gassed, due to Bruno‘s loyalty, Shmuel died without the sadness because he did it with his friend. Furthermore, being loyal can make a real difference, especially during the time in need.

In conclusion, I have gained much insight, knowledge, and understanding about the Jewish Holocaust and WW2. By doing the book report on the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I now understand the friendship, hate, and loyalty that was conveyed in the story. I have learned about the hate between the innocent Jewish people and the Nazis during the Holocaust, how society can be wrong at times and that it cannot tell you who you can’t care for as a friend, and how loyalty can change a person’s life during an important time. All in all, the book report was a great project that really got me to give more attention to things about the Jewish Holocaust and WW2.
