Imagine coming home from a long day of work to see your dog and cat run you out of your house, cursing you out. It‘s their house now! But probably not for long, I mean you are the one that pays for it, right? Every achievement made by an uprising will be followed by prosperity, but long lasting countries and governments know that without proper guidance, leadership, and action, the success of civilization will soon crumble. Using Animal Form by George Orwell, one can see how corruption can occur when one assumes too much power or strength in a position “Every anarchist is a baffled dictator” — Benito Mussolini Old Major, the figurehead of the animals on the farm is planning to lead an uprising against their cruel, unjust owner Mr.
Jones. He believes Jones does not care about them at all, he only cares about what they produce, and he is too drunk all the time to do so.
Major has inspired most of the animals on the farm to take pan in this rebellion, but he dies shonly after.
He leaves his two disciples, Napoleon and Snowball, to carry on his ideals, Napoleon and Snowball are soon to be seen as counterparts 7 they have a different way of doing things, and as they develop further into the story you will soon notice how things are going from good to bad. Snowball has Major‘s intentions at heart, bringing up a peaceful and educational way of doing things. Meanwhile Napoleon has a devious plan up his sleeve and ends up as what he was trying not to be at the beginning 7 a human.
Napoleon was written to represent Joseph Stalin, having contributed basically nothing to the rebellion, and taking advantage of other people to achieve his goals and his only.
Snowball represents Leon Trotsky, as he represents animalism and goes on a dedicated and innocent way of doing things, but is turned around as the villain by Napoleon, who is the actual villain himself. The way Animal Farm was written is very detailed and every character was meant to represent a certain person of interest of the past, or an ideal/moralt Boxer represents the working class people of that time, Squealer represents how politicians mend their words and set propaganda in action. The most important characterization is Old Major. Vladimir Lenin was one of the most significant and historical figures in the 20‘h century, he remains controversial and a divisive political figure to this day.
His ideals provoked communist leaders, such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, What I found very interesting is that during a time of Lenin’s sickness, Joseph Stalin manipulated various groups of people by using a mediator to craft a fake photograph of him beside Lenin, claiming to be Lenin’s true successor. It’s very similar to the way Squealer manipulates the rest of the animals on the farm to believing in Stalin by using propaganda You can easily see by this point that Major is Lenin, Snowball is Trotsky, and Napoleon is Stalin. When you have two differing views passed down by a predecessor, in history it seems quite often that one or the other ends up failing due to innocence and hard work, and the other wins due to greed and devious actions.
When someone is put in a high position of power, they will want it all, and will do anything to achieve it, no matter if the cost is ordering all your supporters to death or destroying something you have worked so hard to create. It is very ironic in the sense of how power causes corruption. Napoleon is a key example of this. Irony is a key factor that plays out perfectly in this tale. The good guy seems to always lose, and that’s a really sad thing to say. In the end, Mr. Jones sat in his bed drinking whiskey and not giving a crap about anything on his farm, guess who ended up doing the same thing? Napoleon. Is it safe to say that we are all pigs, or is just Joseph Stalin a pig? I say both, The main thing that makes us hungry pigs that get slaughtered in the end, is greed, End of story.
