Bilbo's Motivation of Desire in the Novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

In the novel, The Hobbit, by J. R. R. Tolkien, the protagonist is Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is a hobbit, which is from a race of small, chubby people with furry toes Hobbits are about half the size of humans. In this novel, all of the characters are driven by their motivation to achieve what they need, Bilbo is driven by the motivation of desire, Bilbo’s motivation in the novel is desire because he was trying to get back his lost treasure that another character, the antagonist, named Smaug stole.

That treasure is so important to him, and anyone else that had something important stolen from them, they would try to get it back Bilbo, along with a wizard named Gandalf, and thirteen dwarves go on an adventure to get their lost treasure back to them. Their desire to get their treasure back made it possible for them to go to great lengths in order to find it.

To get back their treasure, the group had to travel a long way to the Lonely Mountain where Smaug was hiding.

During their journey, they faced many obstacles and dangerous tasks, but that didn’t stop them from continuing their journey to find their stolen treasure. This group was able to continue theirjourney, no matter how hard it became, to retrieve their lost treasure because their motivation of desire made it possible for them. There are a few examples in the novel that show how Bilbo’s motivation helped him get through the many obstacles that came in his way.

There, he fought the spiders and wood elves and was able to release his friends from being held captive Bilbo also used the invisibility of the ring to slip in and out of the Elven-king’s gates without anybody noticing. Another instance of his bravery was when Bilbo went to walk into Smaug’s lair and talk to him. That was an act of courage but also a dangerous act to do because he was risking his safety. The protagonist in the novel, Bilbo, is driven by his motivation of desire to help get back the stolen treasure from the antagonist Smaug Bilbo and his friends went through many dangerous obstacles on their journey. Even with these challenges, Bilbo was still able to get through till the end because of his courage and luck Bilbo was seen as a hero and still stayed true to himself.
