Courage to Continue

My journey was challenging, but has characterized the man I’ve become, and solidified the mark I want to leave in this world. One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my college degree, even though my early adulthood pointed in the opposite direction. The year of 2017, I encountered various obstacles that I thought would have been the end of my career and my freedom. However, in October 2017 I was given a second chance to beat all odds and pursue my purpose and speak mine why.

Sometimes the path we embark on is not always the one we choose. Sometimes we are pushed or pulled in certain directions and we have to react to our environment however for me, 2018 was my year of momentum I was able to graduate from Johnson & Wales University with a bachelor’s degree.

Graphic arts saved me. When I decided to make a change in my life for the better, I found my passion and discovered what drove me.

My ability to create photography, videography, and marketing. I had an innovative eye and saw how good I was at videos, capturing a different perspective, and approaching marketing content differently than ever seen before. My visual of being able to produce entertainment or capture the world’s issues through a camera lens began my interest in film. I found something that for once in my life kept me out of trouble, and that was capturing beauty, emotion, and excitement through a lens. Nothing in photography and videography came easy to me, I spent countless hours practicing and doing everything I could just to be behind the lens.

However, it became my muse, my reason for getting excited, and the place I felt most comfortable. I no longer felt the need of being someone I was not. Because the best version of myself was seen behind a camera.

I feel I am someone that has gained many transferable skills which will contribute to my higher studies and any work I undertake. This is the path I have chosen for myself, to become the best in an area that I find massively gratifying. This quote stood out to me“ Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill. The reason why getting admitted to the FSU graduate program is such an important to me is that it’s the next step in not only reaching my dreams of owning a media agency but also proving to myself and the people that believe in me that you can accomplish anything even through failures.
