The factors that could have affected this experiment are endogenous, which are frequently correlated with environmental changes such as light, temperature, and relative humidity. They were taken from their natural habitat and put into a room with different temperature and lighting than what they are used to. Another factor to be considered is that although many species are active during a certain period of day or night and are quiescent for the remainder of the 24 hours, some exhibit different kinds of activity at different times.

(Cloudlessly- Thompson, 1951) Our hypothesis was that gibbous prefer grass to sand.

If the bugs prefer sand to grass, it could be because of other factors. MATERIALS & METHODS The first thing we did when we performed this experiment was gather our materials. We needed the clear, plastic experiment container, fresh grass, sand, and 20 Gibbous. Next, we measured the amount of grass and sand and record it on the data table.

We then applied grass to the left side of the experiment container and sand to the right side, making sure there was a CM gap in between the two. One gibbous was then placed in the CM gap of the container and 30 seconds was started on the stopwatch.

When time was completed we observed which side, grass or sand, the gibbous had preferred. Then, the gibbous was removed and a new one was placed in the container. The same steps were taken for each of the 20 bugs. RESULTS Our hypothesis was that gibbous prefer grass to sand as a ground covering because grass is more suitable to them due to its moisture level and that it contains decaying matter.

The gibbous preferred sand 10% more than grass (Figure 1). Table 1 shows the difference in preference for the ground covering, with more gibbous preferring sand to grass.

Figure 1. This pie chart shows that the gibbous preferred sand 55%, and grass 45%. I Observed I Expected Grass 191 10 | sand Ill | 10 Table 1 . This chart shows that the observed number of gibbous preferred grass 9 times, and sand 11 times. It also shows the expected data 10 for each preference. DISCUSSION The purpose of this investigation was to test gibbous preference between grass and sand. The results of this experiment show that gibbous prefer sand to grass. Of the 20 gibbous, they preferred sand 11 times, and grass 9 times (Table 1).
