The word photography is made up of two Greek words which are ‘photo’ and ‘graphia’. ‘Photo’ has the meaning of light and ‘graphia’ has the meaning of drawing. And photography means an art of taking pictures/photographs. Joseph Nicéphore Niépce who is a French inventor, was first given credit for creating the first photograph in 1825. Louis Daguerre and Alfred Stieglitz are known as the Father of Photography. Louis Daguerre is famous for the invention of the daguerreotype process of photography.

And Alfred Stieglitz is mostly known for altering the precipitation of people towards photography. A daguerreotype is a photograph that is produced on a silver or a silver-covered copper plate. Ansel Adams, who was a photographer and an environmentalist, was born in San Francisco, California on February 20, 1902.

Ansel Adams: Photography and Piano

When he was four, he broke his nose due to an aftershock of an earthquake and fire in 1906. Adams was a hopeless and rebellious student when he was young, and his father removed him from school when Adams was 12.

Then Adams became an ambitious musician to be a highly gifted pianist. He first received his camera in 1916, and he proved his talent of being a photographer. While he spent his time on both photography and piano, he decided to spend his time only on photography in 1930.

Adams was famous in the photographic community in 1935. In 1936, the importance of his work was recognized by Alfred Stieglitz, and awarded Adams the first one-artist show. Ansel Adams was the most important landscape photographer of the 20th century and died in April 22, 1984.

Ansel Adams was strongly influenced by Alfred Stieglitz. Alfred Stieglitz is a photographer who met Adams in 1933 and awarded Adams the first-one artist show. He was trying to communicate the grandeur of landscape and nature through his photographs. And his photographs could give the feelings of being peaceful and calm to the audience.

Andy Warhol’s Career

Andy Warhol, who is an American artist and filmmaker, was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And his original name is Andrew Warhola. In 1949, he got graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

Then went to New York City, and worked as a commercial illustrator. Warhol began painting in the late 1950s. But when he exhibited paintings of Coca-Cola bottles, Campbell’s soup cans, and wooden replicas of Brillo soap pad boxes, he received notoriety. In 1960s, he spent more time and energy in filmmaking. In 1968, he was shot and got nearly killed by Valerie Solanas. Andy Warhol died on February 22, 1987. Andy Warhol was influenced by his mother called Julia Warhola, who provided Warhol with art materials and motivated him to draw. He was also influenced by Nathan Gluck who was an artist and a graphic designer.

Martin de Pasquale

Gluck motivated and supported Warhol’s work and even worked as his assistant. And the main theme of Andy Warhol’s artworks is the transformation of the mundane into art. Martin de Pasquale was born in 1988 in Argentina. He is an illusionist photographer and creates images that distort the lines between reality and fantasy. He was awarded in Festival Iberoamericano De La Publicidad (FIAP). He uses photoshop, 3Ds max, and Ightroom. He often uses himself for his subject matter. He was inspired by a Japanese graphic artist called Shigeo Fukuda and a Swedish photographer named Erik Johansson. Martin de Pasquale’s artworks are sometimes comical or ironic and sometimes communicating the commentary of the world around him.

Audiences are amazed of his surreal artworks where he distort the lines between reality and fantasy. He was inspired by a Japanese graphic artist called Shigeo Fukuda and a Swedish photographer named Erik Johansson. Through this task, I have examined 3 different artists; Ansel Adams, Andy Warhol, and Martin de Pasquale. The photographs of Ansel Adams made me calm but it also seemed a bit lonely to me. Because there wasn’t anyone in those photographs, there were just scenery that seemed peaceful.

Conclusion: Artworks Analysis

Andy Warhol’s artworks seemed attracting because of all those colorful colors he used. And lastly, Martin de Pasquale’s artworks shocked me the most. Those artworks looked surreal, and it looked like an another me inside was controlling myself. I had the most interest in Martin de Pasquale’s artworks because his artworks were showing distortion of the lines between reality and fantasy. But out of these different techniques, I would choose Andy Warhol’s techniques. Because it attracted people’s attentions easily and it was unique in it own way.
