A Review of Edgar Allan Poe's Poem on His Love for His Lost Wife, Annabel Lee

In Poes poem he describes his love for his lost wife, Annabel Lee. He knew the love that they shared was true and everlasting because they loved without restraint. Their love was so true that the seraphs of heaven even envied them. The seraphs jealousy caused them to take the life Annabel Lee. Their attempt to extinguish the love between Poe and her only backfired. The seraphs were angry because only the heavenly things were to be perfect.

Not saying that Poe and Annabel Lee were perfect but their love for one another was.

No matter if Annabel Lee did pass on, he would always love her. Their souls were to be forever joined in life as well as eternally in death. She was not only his bride but also his life, what he lived for. Edgar Allan Poe loved her so much that a day never passed without him thinking of his Annabel Lee.

I love this poem because of the eternal love that they share.

I want to find that kind of love. Not the whole first cousin marriage thing, but the true, simple, forgiving love that seems to not exist anymore. Poe saying that it did not matter how wise or old they were, all that mattered was that they were truly happy with one another. It really does not matter about your age or the age difference. All that really matters is that you are truly happy with one another. It is so rare in this day in age to be able to love so freely.

Poe didn’t just think of Annabel Lee as a wife, but as his life-what kept him alive. I have troubles being completely open with people, which is why I think that this poem affects me so much. I want that kind of openness, that kind of devotion, that kind of true love. But before I can receive that, I must give that away. If you have never loved with the entirety of your heart, mind, body, and soul then you have yet to truly love at all.
