A Personal Narrative About the Experience of watching The Wolf of Wall Street

It was a boring day and there was nothing planned for the night when my brother, Thomas, texted me to tell me that he was going to the movies with our two good family friends. I hadn’t really thought about which movie we were seeing, just that I wanted to go out and do something. I found out we were seeing The Wolf of Wall Street once Thomas picked me up. I had heard about it here and there but no specifics; I personally just assumed it was a random boring movie about a guy working on Wall St.

who became successful, I had no idea what I was in for. With that being said, I was blown away by this movie. It was rated R, so I assumed it would be adult-like, but not even close to what it actually was.

I really did enjoy the experience of this film, it made me feel some sort of need to achieve the same success as Jordan Belfort, the main character in the movie.

Due to the unusualness of this particular movie, I believe that everyone has seen it has had a far different experience compared to those who saw other movies. However, I think that everyone in my movie theatre experienced a similar experience as me, particularly because this movie was so raw and vivid that there was only one possible experience. As you had said in class, it is a little odd that hundreds of people pay money to go see pictures flashed across the screen with loud noises, however, this movie could not be watched in any other way.

The experience we had in the theatre was far greater than anyone who watches this film on his or her home TV. This movie needed the intensity that the theatre gave to us. Personally, I think that people flock to movie theatres because of the intensity that the films bring, they almost recreate the environment in the movie to make you feel in that exact same situation or at least only the very expert films). Some movies are agonizing to watch and these are the ones that we just sit in to sit in and watch because we have nothing else better to do, or we want to “hang out” without actually having to talk or engage in each other. However, there are a few movies, which are so big and powerful that people come to share the experience and not just waste their time.

Maybe this explains why modern-day people search for a unique experience that can take them away from their everyday life, and for two hours live and see something completely different. My experience made me feel that I needed to go out and become a finance or economics major and live the life that Jordan Belfort had. My heart was pounding and my eyes were bloodshot from not blinking once. I felt the loss when the main character had his money taken away and I had success when he achieved success. In conclusion, not all movies can make a person feel this way, however when they do come along, it is not a waste of time for the viewer, it is an endless search for the viewer to experience a whole new lifestyle right before their eyes.
